Self-love is the foundation of doing good and the path to accumulating virtue. In the complex world, a pure heart is like a beacon, illuminating the way forward.

1. In this world, no one would wish for you to live better than them, even many people hope for you to live poorly so as to highlight their own beauty.

2. In life, it is impossible to predict one's future. Blindly pursuing material wealth only adds to the spiritual burden. In the fleeting span of life, only by maintaining a tranquil and frugal mindset, accumulating virtues, and taking pleasure in hardship, can one truly live a carefree and magnanimous life.

3. Do not expect anything from anyone, do not rely on anyone, do not live under the gaze of others, and do not care about what others think of you. In this world, except for yourself, no one really wants to bother with you.

4. Good people know how to save lives. For instance, in the forest, they provide a nest for birds; when they come across beautiful flowers, they never pick them; they prevent others from climbing the trees at will; they behave as civilized citizens by not crossing the street recklessly.

5. Life is precious, even a ant has its value of existence. If you always kill living beings, then you will damage your blessings. We often see such a warm reminder in the park, "Even the grass has life, please don't trample it at will." It is telling you to cherish life.

6. However, there is no doubt expressed in historical records about the historical accounts of the Spring and Autumn Annals.

7. Someone said, "Pamper yourself, learn to be independent, love yourself well during times of loneliness, giving yourself comfort; during moments of solitude, give yourself warmth. We need to accept our imperfect selves, only by completely accepting ourselves and loving ourselves can we continuously improve and better ourselves."

8. It means that if a person is willing to do good, although happiness has not yet arrived, the distance from misfortune is already quite far.

Mr. Yu Kuan said, "Only by achieving cognitive awakening can you maximize your benefits. 1% of cognitive awakening comes from education and learning, and the remaining 99% comes from climbing mountains of knives, crossing fiery seas, rolling over nails, entering oil pots, and passing through the ghost gate with a thousand cuts."

Chapter 10: The "Commentary on the Collection of the Great Preceptor's Treatise on Response" states: "The term 'Great Preceptor' is the highest title in the Taoist sect. 'Response' refers to the movement from one cause to another, and 'retribution' refers to the response to this movement. When good or evil moves the heavens and the earth, there must be retribution." This means that the so-called "response" refers to the retribution of good and evil, where gods, spirits, and ghosts in the world reward or punish people according to their actions. Therefore, the opening is based on the sixteen-character slogan "Misfortune and fortune have no doors, they are solely summoned by humans; the retribution of good and evil follows like a shadow," propagating the concept of "good reaps good, and evil reaps evil" in terms of causality and retribution.

11. English Translation: A family that accumulates good deeds will have surplus blessings. Those who hold good thoughts in their hearts and often do good deeds will receive the protection of the dragon heaven benevolent gods.

12. Whether you live or die, whether you experience joy or suffering, it's none of others' business; they won't concern themselves with your affairs.

13. Accumulating virtue and doing good deeds, even if unseen by others, will eventually bring blessings. When a person does good, although the blessings have not yet arrived, disasters have already been kept at bay. Those who do good deeds are like new grass sprouting in spring, though its growth may not be observed, it is daily nourished by the sunlight. Those who do evil are like the stone used for sharpening knives, though its wear is not visible, there is a daily loss of its parts.

14. Children's primer books compiled during the Ming Dynasty of China. The earliest mention of the book's title is found in the drama "Peony Pavilion" from the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, which suggests that the book was written no later than the Wanli period.

15. To have a kind heart means to treat others with kindness and benevolence in all aspects of life. In one's thoughts and actions, one should cultivate a heart of compassion and mercy, always considering the needs and well-being of others.

16. Don't be stingy with food, drink, or spending money. Today there's wine, drink to be drunk today; tomorrow's worries will come tomorrow. Being stingy with oneself is the greatest confusion. Because life is unpredictable, and one's fate is not in one's own hands. Cherishing the present is the way to be responsible for oneself.

17. As the saying goes, "If you don't burn incense everyday, you'll have to beg Buddha at the eleventh hour." Being kind to others is something to do all your life, not something to do just on a particular day. No one owes you anything; everyone is kind to you because of the good feelings between us.

18. If you can do something to help others in need by providing aid in times of snow, showing concern for those who urgently require assistance, you are accumulating merit. Perhaps, those who are poor may not be able to offer anything to express their gratitude to you, but their hearts will surely remember you and be grateful. As for the wealthy, if you help them, they often do not feel grateful, instead, they may think that your help is too weak, and it does not amount to much for them.

19. The text from "The Book of Yin Zhi of the Emperor of Wen Cheng" states: "Weighing scales must be fair, and there should be no light output and heavy input." A person should conduct transactions fairly and not cheat on the weight. In life, one should uphold fairness and justice, not seek small advantages, and not scheme against others. Such good deeds are also积累 of good karma.

20. If a person loves goodness, although blessings may not arrive, misfortune will be far away; if a person does not love goodness, although misfortune may not arrive, blessings will be far away.

21. The venerable monk said, respecting the elderly and loving the young is our virtue, and respecting the elderly is the greatest manifestation of a person's良心 (conscience) goodness. The most precious quality of a person is kindness, and a person who harbors good thoughts often receives good blessings. In life, we often see some people who cannot only fail to care for the elderly and lonely, but often shun them, and even do not want to take care of their aging parents. Such people not only bear the reproach of being ungrateful, but their own children will also be influenced and become indifferent. Conversely, there are some people in life who always respect and love their parents, no matter what diseases they have or whether they can take care of themselves, they can take care of them personally, and often help the elderly without children around them. During rest times or weekends, they will accompany the lonely elderly. Over time, this virtue will be praised by everyone, gradually forming a noble image. Because of your good deeds, many people around you are willing to get close to you and become good friends. When you encounter difficulties, these people are more willing to lend a hand to help you. Generally speaking, kind-hearted people have no ulterior motives, so when others have good things or opportunities, they will naturally think of you. At the same time, children are also influenced by these kind deeds and become kind people. This kindness is passed down from generation to generation. Therefore, the act of lovingly helping the lonely elderly often brings good blessings to one's life.

22. Mr. Lu Xun wrote the following passage in his book "Yi Ji":

23. Accumulate virtue and do good deeds; regardless of the state of affairs, do not extinguish the goodness within your heart.

24. Wake up in time, grasp the rhythm of life's development, say the right words, do the right things, and comprehensively upgrade your IQ, EQ, and FQ. In this way, you can cope with the unpredictable changes of the times and seize your own development dividend period.

25. Having committed too many misdeeds in this life and accumulating too much virtue in past lives, it is time to reform and start anew, to regulate and introspect oneself daily, to reflect until the heart is at peace, and to accumulate virtue and do good deeds. To be worthy of one's conscience, to be worthy of the most beautiful scenery and people!

26. There is skepticism in the academic community regarding the historical value of the Spring and Autumn Annals. Hu Shi believed: "The book of the Spring and Autumn Annals should only be regarded as a reference book for Confucian orthodoxy, but not as a model historical work. Later historians regarded the Spring and Autumn Annals as a model for writing history, which was a great mistake. Why? Because the purpose of history is to 'speak the truth and record actual events.'

27. The "Taishang Ganying篇" believes that "there are gods in charge of recording sins in heaven and earth, who, according to the severity of a person's offenses, deduct their lifespan." "There are also three northern Dipper gods above people's heads, recording their sins and deducting their lifespan." "There are also three hun spirits within a person's body, who, on every Geng Shen day, go up to the celestial court to report people's sins." Therefore, people's actions are judged by the heavens, earth, and spirits. When a person acts unrighteously and against reason, they will "lose their record of life if the offense is serious, or lose their lifespan if it is minor." As the lifespan diminishes, they will become poor and exhausted, and face many misfortunes. Ultimately, "when their lifespan is exhausted, they die," and the person leaves the world. If they have committed more than their due punishment, it will also bring misfortune to their descendants.

28. On the second floor, there were two people laughing loudly; there was also the sound of card playing. On the river, there was a woman crying over her deceased mother.

29. The day before yesterday in the afternoon, when I was buying vegetables at the market, I bought a bunch of scallions, totaling two and a half pounds. After paying the money, I always felt something was off. When I got home, I weighed them and found that there were only one and a half pounds. In my heart, I cursed, "You unscrupulous person, you will not be rewarded well." Although my curses were not heard by the vegetable seller, he must also feel guilty in his heart. If many people were to curse him as "unscrupulous" and never go back to his stall to buy vegetables again, it's estimated that his business would not survive either. He truly deserves to be cursed and his good reputation damaged.

30. As the ancients said, "It is better to cultivate hidden virtues than to seek for fame and status." It is better to accumulate virtues and blessings than to create honor and status. If you treat accumulating virtues and blessings as a lifelong endeavor, your life, family, and career will surely thrive more and more.

31. Another hurdle has been passed today, so in the future, one should do more good deeds, accumulate virtue, and let luck be a bit better.

32. Sending a feather from a thousand miles away, the gift is light but the sentiment is heavy. Treating others with respect and reciprocating their gestures of kindness does not mean exchanging gifts equivalently, but rather treating others with care and treasuring their gifts. For instance, if someone gives you a rose, and you casually discard it in the trash, then you are someone who is lacking in virtue; but if you nurture the rose in a vase, taking good care of it, that is an act of kindness.

33. In life, one should do good and accumulate virtue, which not only bestows benefits on the family and brings more blessings to oneself, but also benefits one's descendants. Accumulate good karma, maintain a kind heart, and do more good deeds.

34. The purpose of the Spring and Autumn Annals is not to record factual events, but to express personal judgments on factual events." Mr. Xu Fuguan also said: "We can conclude that Confucius' motivation and purpose in compiling the Spring and Autumn Annals was not what is today called 'history', but to fulfill the solemn mission of substituting historical judgment for divine judgment by showcasing the ancient virtuous annalists. It can be said that this is a mission beyond history, therefore, it is a classic rather than a historical text."

35. Everyone has an awakening period, but the timing of this awakening determines one's destiny.

36. The venerable monk said, "Children are the future and the flowers of the motherland. Every child should receive a good education because it is the foundation. Those who help orphans often fulfill their responsibilities perfectly. While our children grow up in happiness, study, and live their lives, there are still many orphans or left-behind children around us. They have lost their parents for various reasons or had to leave their hometown due to life's hardships. These children grow up in solitude, suffering from lack of clothing and food, without books to read or toys to play with. Therefore, in life, we find that some people have kind hearts, not seeking fame or profit, using their own wages to support the education of children in remote mountainous areas every month, using their meager income to help several orphans, and inviting them to their homes during holidays to care for and love them as their own children until they grow up. Such people are often kind-hearted. Therefore, when these children who have received help grow up, they will also show gratitude by taking care of the people who once helped them. Because of these good deeds, many talents have been cultivated for society, and they join in the construction of the motherland. This virtue is often highly respected, thus receiving a lot of honor and praise, building a wall of kindness in life that influences others, becoming a person of great virtue and respect. Therefore, such people are often loved and supported by more people in their lives, and their lives tend to be圆满.

37. Life is an isolated river, and only you can be the ferryman of your own life. Love yourself well, shelter yourself from the wind and rain, think of ways to please yourself, and do everything in your power to cater to yourself; that is what makes life on earth worthwhile.

38. Accumulating virtue may go unnoticed by others, but doing good is known to heaven. When people do good, though blessings may not arrive immediately, disasters are already far away; when people do evil, though disasters may not arrive immediately, blessings are already far away. Those who do good are like the grass in a spring garden, though its growth is not visible, it is constantly being nurtured. Those who do evil are like the stone used to sharpen a knife, though its wear is not visible, it is constantly being eroded. Blessings and disasters have no gate, they always lie in the heart. The terrifying aspect of doing evil is not in being discovered by others, but in knowing it oneself; the praiseworthy aspect of doing good is not in being praised by others, but in one's own tranquility.

39. The top virtue is filial piety. A good person will never mistreat their parents. In our village, there is a man named Zhao Zhao in his forties who has never been married. Many years ago, his mother passed away, and his father has been sick in bed for years. Their family is also poor and cannot afford a babysitter to take care of him. Therefore, Zhao Zhao took on the role of a babysitter. Zhao Zhao also has a younger brother and sister. Zhao Zhao encouraged them to go out and struggle for a living, not to worry about the family. His kind deeds have been recognized by many people, and some older people have introduced potential partners to him. Last year, Zhao Zhao married a woman who had been divorced. The woman said, "Zhao Zhao is filial to his parents, he must be a good person. Although they are poor, they live a stable life."

40. "A man downstairs is dying of illness, while the family next door is playing a gramophone; across the way, there are children playing."

41. Original text: If one harbors good thoughts, there must be good actions. With good thoughts and actions, heaven will surely bless them.

42. "We have many inefficient and erroneous cognitive distortions caused by ineffective mental models in our minds. Only by breaking those patterns of thought can we become a better version of ourselves."

43. "As the saying goes, 'Good steel is used on the blade,' don't give your money to others随意. Otherwise, even though you are doing good deeds, you won't necessarily receive good rewards, or the rewards you receive may be smaller. Save your money well, and then spend it on what is needed. If you give money to those in urgent need, that is true benevolence. You can also use the money to buy things and give them to the elderly, the weak, women, and children. When buying things, try to buy necessities rather than unnecessary items, which is also a commendable act of kindness."

44. Goodness will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil; it is not that there is no retribution, but the time has not yet come. Goodness and evil both lie within a single thought. A person who has been doing good for a long time but commits a tiny mistake can still spread a bad reputation far and wide. Therefore, if one wants to accumulate good karma, one must do good throughout one's life and never do evil. At the same time, good karma refers to doing good deeds secretly without benefiting oneself; one should not boast or show joy on one's face, and should do more and talk less.

45. If you give a hundred yuan to a wealthy person, others would certainly look down upon it. But if you give a hundred yuan to the old, the weak, women, and children, people will remember you for a lifetime. A hundred yuan, if used to fuel a small car, would be spent in a few days, and if used to buy cigarettes and alcohol, it might not even be enough; however, for someone who is so poor that they can't afford to cook, a hundred yuan might be their monthly living expenses.

46. It means: Being kind-hearted, even if you don't have good fortune descending upon you, it will also keep you away from misfortunes; being cruel, even if there are no disasters from heaven, you will be farther and farther from good luck. A person who treats others kindly is like the grass in a spring park, looking not very tall every day, but actually growing every day. A person who does evil is like a stone used to sharpen knives, looking as if it's not damaged, but actually being worn down every day.

47. Love yourself, treat yourself well, and nourish yourself — that is the ultimate clarity for a person.

48. The joys and sorrows of humans are not shared; I only feel they are noisy.

49. To love oneself and live one's life in the way one likes is the greatest act of benevolence and accumulating virtue.

50. Teach people to always keep the thought of doing good in their hearts. The things they naturally do will be good deeds. By frequently doing good deeds, they will receive the divine protection and have a good outcome.

55. In the book "Teardown the Wall in Your Mind," it is said:

56. A person's life can shine, be fulfilling, be self-satisfying, and be joyful only when they carry a kind heart. 58. It's easy to add flowers to a brocade, but it's hard to deliver charcoal in a snowstorm. These days, people with money are often courted and helped because they want to gain benefits from the wealthy, thinking that rich people are their life's benefactors. On the other hand, the poor are looked down upon in society, and relatives and friends tend to distance themselves. For the poor, there is not much value in being of use to others.

In the world, no matter how much fame, wealth, and prosperity there are, or how brilliant one's future may seem, nothing compares to a healthy and happy you. 62. That's right. Whether it's "doing good deeds to accumulate virtue" or "accumulating virtue to do good deeds," the order is correct. The meanings of "doing good deeds to accumulate virtue" and "accumulating virtue to do good deeds" are quite similar, but there are slight differences. "Accumulating virtue to do good deeds" means that doing good deeds is done with the purpose of accumulating one's own virtue and blessings. In "doing good deeds to accumulate virtue," the emphasis is on accumulating virtue first, which means that having received these blessings, one should share them with others and do good deeds. In fact, all these are about the cycle of cause and effect: doing good deeds leads to accumulating virtue, and after accumulating virtue, one should do more good deeds.

63. Cultivating oneself and preserving life is the philosophy of Taoism, with the existence of life forms in the present world being fundamental. It emphasizes the importance of the present world and the珍惜 of the life that exists in reality. Therefore, for those who wish to attain longevity, it is necessary to avoid all kinds of mistakes, large and small, which number in the hundreds. What is in harmony with avoiding evil is pursuing goodness, as "goodness" can elevate people to a higher level of life: achieving enlightenment and becoming a immortal. Therefore, the "Book of Responses" extensively discusses the benefits of doing good, establishing a ladder that can be climbed under the ideal of the highest level of life in Taoism—achieving enlightenment and becoming an immortal—namely, the actual attitude and practice of doing good in reality.

68. In ancient times, there was a story about "borrowing light through the wall." One could read their own books by borrowing candlelight from another's house.
