Seeking the True Meaning of Life: Serenity, Letting Go, and Ease

1. 春有百花秋有月,夏有凉风冬有雪。若无闲事在心头,便是人间好时节。

1. In spring there are blooming flowers, in autumn there is the moon, in summer there is a cool breeze, and in winter there is snow. If there are no idle thoughts in one's heart, then every season is a good time on earth.

2. 世上本无事,庸人自扰之。

2. There is nothing wrong in the world, but the fool makes a fuss about it.

3. 人生一世,草生一秋。“寄蜉蝣于天地,渺沧海之一粟”,我们何其渺小和有限,不要和命运去争。赢了如何,输了如何,最后不过忙忙碌碌一场空。

3. In one lifetime, the grass grows for a single autumn. "To entrust oneself to the vastness of the heavens and the earth, to be but a grain of sand in the boundless sea," how small and limited we are. Let's not argue with fate. What if we win, what if we lose? In the end, it's all a vain hustle and bustle.

4. 你尽管活着,上天自有安排。

4. You may live as you wish; the heavens have their own arrangements.

5. 明朝顶级大才子杨慎,是一代权臣、内阁首辅杨廷和的儿子,出身不凡,志存高远。加上他自己聪明过人,才华横溢,取功名富贵不过探囊取物。

5. The renowned talent Yang Shen of the Ming Dynasty was the son of the powerful minister and the first Prime Minister of the cabinet, Yang Tinghe. Born with extraordinary abilities and aspirations, he was exceptionally intelligent and talented, attaining wealth and fame was as easy for him as picking a jewel from a pocket.

6. 然而,因为“大议礼”事件,嘉靖皇帝十分痛恨他,把他贬到当时非常荒凉的云南永昌,严旨永不录用。

6. However, because of the incident of the "Great Rites Debate," Emperor Jiajing deeply disliked him and demoted him to the then desolate Yuncheng in Yunnan, strictly ordering that he would never be employed again.

7. 杨慎非常难过,但既然无法改变,不如接受。既然和朝廷无缘,不如释怀。从北京前往云南,经过长江的时候,他感慨万千,想到多少英雄人物都已经灰飞烟灭,于是写下一首词:

7. Yang Shen was extremely saddened, but since there was no changing it, he might as well accept it. Since he had no connection with the court, he might as well let it go. On his journey from Beijing to Yunnan, as he passed through the Yangtze River, he felt a myriad of emotions, thinking of how many heroic figures had already turned to ashes, and thus wrote a poem:

8. “滚滚长江东逝水,浪花淘尽英雄。是非成败转头空。青山依旧在,几度夕阳红。”

8. "The mighty Yangtze River flows eastward, its waves wash away heroes. Right and wrong, success and failure all turn to emptiness. The green mountains remain the same, and the red sun sets repeatedly."

9. 得失荣辱,是非成败,都是一场空。只有青山不改,绿水长流。

9. Gain and loss, honor and disgrace, right and wrong, success and failure, all are in vain. Only the green mountains remain unchanged, and the clear waters flow endlessly.

10. 不要执着于功名利禄,有则锦上添花,无则依旧风华。

10. Do not become overly attached to fame and wealth. If you have them, they are like adding a brocade to a tapestry, enhancing its beauty. If not, you can still maintain your elegance.

11. 一位作家和朋友出门办事,遇到一个卖报纸的小孩,衣衫褴褛,非常可怜。

11. A writer and his friend went out to do something and encountered a newsboy who was dressed in rags and looked very pitiful.

12. 作家跟他买了一份报纸,多给了他一些钱,让他买些好吃的。可卖报男孩往地上啐了一口,恶狠狠地说:你是看不起我吗!我虽然卖报纸,但不需要你来可怜我,我最恨你们这样装腔作势的人。

12. The writer bought a newspaper from him and gave him some extra money to buy some nice food. But the newsboy spat on the ground and fiercely said: Do you think I'm unworthy of your pity! Although I sell newspapers, I don't need your sympathy. I hate people who pretend to be compassionate the most.

13. 朋友非常生气,准备上去争吵,作家拉住了他,说:有些人就像一辆行走着的垃圾车,身上装满怨恨,戾气,不满,失落等消极情绪,一旦找到发泄口,他们就会把垃圾倒出去。我们千万不要当他的发泄口。

13. The friend was very angry and was about to go up and argue, but the writer grabbed him and said: "Some people are like a moving garbage truck, filled with negative emotions such as resentment, anger, dissatisfaction, and despair. Once they find an outlet for their venting, they will dump out the garbage. We must never be their venting outlet.

14. 生活中,总会遇到烂人烂事。你如果纠缠,就会拉低自己的层次,浪费自己大量的时间和精力,赢了不光荣,输了不光彩。不要纠缠,远远离开,才是最明智的做法。

14. In life, you will inevitably encounter bad people and bad things. If you get entangled, it will lower your level, waste a lot of your time and energy, and neither winning nor losing will bring you honor. The wisest course of action is not to get entangled, but to distance yourself as far as possible.

15. 苏东坡被贬到黄州,前途尽暗,生活困顿,但他一点也没有在意,在有限的条件下,把自己的小日子经营得活色生香,惬意无穷。

15. Su Dongpo was demoted to Huangzhou, where his prospects were bleak and his life was hard. However, he paid no heed to any of it, and under limited conditions, he managed to make his own little life vibrant and full of joy, enjoying endless comfort.

16. 他泛舟游玩,吟诗作赋,写字画画,还变着花样做各种各样的好吃的,比如著名的东坡肉,东坡肘子,就是他的杰作。

16. He enjoyed boating, composing poems and verses, writing and painting, and also cooked a variety of delicious dishes with great creativity. For instance, the famous Dongpo Braised Pork and Dongpo Pork Leg are his masterpieces.

19. 乳色鲜白的好茶伴着新鲜如翡翠般的春蔬,这野餐的味道着实十分爽口。而人间真正有味道的还是清淡的欢愉。

19. A delicate milky white tea paired with fresh vegetables as green as jade, the taste of this picnic is truly refreshing. Yet, it is the light-hearted joy in life that truly has a taste.

20. 有一个好心态,有积极乐观的生活方式,取悦自己,善待自己,不辜负每一个日子。

20. Maintain a good attitude, adopt a positive and optimistic lifestyle, please yourself, treat yourself kindly, and do not let any day go to waste.

21. 人生哪能多如意,万事只求半称心。

21. In life, how can everything be as one wishes? All one can ask for is for half of things to go one's way.

22. 生活不易,命运无常,学会给生活找点乐子,让自己身心愉悦,快快乐乐,才是人间值得。

22. Life is not easy, and fate is ever-changing. Learn to find some joy in life, make yourself mentally and physically content, and live happily ever after, that is what makes life on earth worthwhile.

23. 除了生死,人生没什么大事。学会淡然,释然,悠然,才能活出真正的幸福感。

23. Apart from life and death, there's nothing much in life. Only by learning to be indifferent, relaxed, and at ease can one truly live a happy life.

24. 金黄的芦苇铺满江岸,白色的苹花飘荡在渡口,碧绿的杨柳耸立在江堤上,红艳的野草渲染着滩头。虽然没有生死之交,却有毫无机巧算计之心的朋友,数那些在秋江上自由自在的鸥鹭。鄙视那些达官贵人们的,正是那些不识字的江上钓鱼翁。

24. Golden reeds cover the riverbank, white apple blossoms float at the ferry, emerald willows stand on the river embankment, and vibrant wild grasses paint the riverbank. Though not bound by life-and-death friendships, there are friends without cunning or deceit in their hearts, counting those seagulls and cormorants that roam freely over the autumn river. It is those who can't read and fish by the river who look down upon the officials and nobles.

25. 早上天晴了有些寒冷不想起,看看窗外树叶霜打成红的了。

25. In the morning, the sky cleared up, but it was quite cold and I didn't want to get up. Looking out the window, I saw the leaves had turned red from the frost.

26. 扬帆起航,远望东南方向,高山水乡还很遥远。

26. Set sail and look towards the southeast, the high-water town is still distant.

27. 卦象显吉,宜于远航。那就高兴地趁好日子乘风破浪前进吧。

27. The omens show a favorable sign, indicating that it is auspicious for a long journey. So let's joyfully seize the good day to brave the waves and make progress.

28. 若要问我现在要去哪里?我要到天台山观赏石桥。

28. If you ask me where I'm going now, I'm going to Tian台山 to admire the stone bridge.

29. 朝霞映红的天际璀璨美丽,那大约就是赤城山的尖顶所在。

29. The horizon is resplendent and beautiful with the dawn's glow, which is probably the tip of Chicheng Mountain.

30. 腊月将尽时去哪里泛舟最好呢?吟诗起兴最好之地莫过于潇湘。

30. Where is the best place to boat as the New Year's Month is coming to an end? The most inspiring place for reciting poetry is Xiangxiang.

31. 靠近湘江正在捕鱼的渔船买来最肥美的鱼儿,逢与落雪时沽来的酒酒香更加醇厚。

31. The fishing boats near the Xiangjiang River bought the fattest and most delicious fish, and the wine bought during the snowfall had an even richer aroma.

32. 夜深之时,深山里的猿啼遍了整片岳麓山,雁子知道春天快到了,就别离衡阳飞回北方。

32. As night deepened, the howls of the monkeys echoed throughout the entire Yuexu Mountain, and the wild geese knew that spring was approaching, so they flew away from Hengyang back to the north.

33. 梁间传出燕子的啼声,呢呢喃喃的。它们在说什么?竟将我的闲梦惊醒了。

33. The cries of swallows could be heard from the beams, whispering and murmur. What were they talking about? They even startled me from my idle dreams.

34. 别人如果知道我希望明白燕子的话语,那一定会惹人奇怪。于是一个人拄上拐杖带一壶美酒登芝山去吧。

34. If others knew that I wish to understand the language of swallows, it would certainly be strange. So, let's take a cane and a jar of fine wine to climb the Zhishan Mountain alone.

35. 落魄人,只在一念间望不见,只因破红尘心语沉寂乎。

35. A downcast person, their sight obscured only by a fleeting thought, for it is the silence of their heart amidst the bustle of the world that has numbed their senses.

36. 风壑辗转日月追,谁闭尘关不得归。长欲挥剑断逝水,却尽青春铸劫灰。

36. The wind and ravines twist, chasing the sun and the moon, who seals the gate of dust and cannot return. Longing to swing the sword to sever the flowing water, yet all of one's youth is turned to ashes of disaster.

37. 宠辱不惊,闲看庭前花开花落;去留无意,漫随天外云卷云舒。

37. Take no notice of honor or dishonor, just leisurely watch the flowers bloom and wither in the courtyard; care not for coming or going, idly follow the clouds as they roll and unfold in the sky beyond.

38. 瞳凝秋水剑流星,裁诗为骨玉为神。翩翩白衣云端客,生死为谁一掷轻。

38. The pupil focuses on the autumn water sword, the meteor as the soul, crafting poetry with bones and jade as the spirit. A graceful white-robed guest in the clouds, indifferent to life and death with a throw of the dice.
