In the pursuit of the impermanent and the non-self, life is like a solitary boat bobbing up and down in the tides of time. This is the ultimate pursuit.

1. Perceive the concept of "no self" clearly; there is no self in the world, life is merely a dream-like experience, "emptiness" is the essence of life, and then you will not suffer.

2. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, "enlightenment" itself is something that can only be perceived and cannot be expressed in words; one fears it might be confined to mere words. Secondly, to avoid those who claim to be well-versed in theory but lack practical experience, who may assume they understand after reading, but in fact do not.

3. To counteract the greed within the mind with generosity, anger is one's own temperament. Learn to control your own temperament, and use patience to counteract the anger within. Ignorance refers to foolishness and darkness, lacking wisdom; arrogance refers to treating others haughtily, always looking down on others; doubt is to suspect, not believing others.

4. A realized person's mind is never separated from their body; they are one in body and mind. Where their body is, their mind is also. Their heart is firmly rooted in the true nature of life, adhering to the principle of "unchanging in response to change, and changing in response to unchanging." Only a person who is one in body and mind can achieve the state of being neither delighted by external things nor sorrowful for oneself, remaining unperturbed by fame and dishonor, neither losing composure in success nor becoming pessimistic in failure. They can say, "No matter the winds and waves, it is better than strolling leisurely in a courtyard."

5. Who is repairing me, and who am I? This is the primary problem that a practitioner must solve. Enlightenment is the root, and practice is the end. Not distinguishing between the root and the end is called confusion; enlightenment is the essence, and practice is the function. The unity of essence and function is called nature.

6. The so-called "first practice and then enlightenment" is actually a misdirection, which is a "method obsession" based on the "ego-clinging."

7. A Tibetan monk once said: What you resist, persists. What you accept, dissolves.

8. By accepting the impermanence of the world, allowing all imperfections and regrets in life to happen, you will not feel sorrow.

9. For instance, when speaking for oneself or doing things for oneself, one's habits are easily stirred. It is easier to remain calm and unmoved when being passive, but it is harder to remain unmoved when being proactive. If one is truly a practitioner of the path, they commonly see their own faults. If one does not see their own faults, then they are not a person on the path of cultivation. Commonly seeing one's own faults and transforming them without any intention, this is what it means to save all sentient beings.

10. Without doubt, one will not be urgent about the great matters of life and death, and will not be able to comprehend the true essence of Buddhism.

11. No Self: The Diamond Sutra says, "All conditioned phenomena are like dreams, illusions, bubbles, and shadows, like dew and lightning."

12. In life, many things are constantly changing: money, fame, status, houses, cars... Nothing is eternal. The only thing that truly stays with you is your heart, yearning for awakening, and the treasure within your inner self.

13. This is not a tranquil state of mind through deliberate effort, but a natural life condition.

14. Establish a point from nothingness and then mark it with a specific date, month, and year, because you believe, it becomes that specific date, month, and year. Because all humanity believes, the false seems true.

15. It means that all the methods in the world, being transient and insubstantial, are just like dreams, bubbles, and shadows, like dew and lightning, fleeting and vanishing in an instant. Even though they may be beautiful and intense, they leave no trace behind. Everything is empty, and everything one clings to has no meaning.

16. It is something that cannot be found even if you search throughout the universe, and in the void as well. Why? Because it cannot be found outside the mind.

17. Not recognizing oneself but pretending to be what one is not, and from then on becoming lazy in one's own cultivation. If so, wouldn't such virtuous individuals commit the fault of cutting off others' wisdom? Moreover, "enlightenment" itself is a matter of the mind and nature. It is a matter of knowing the cold and warmth by oneself!

18. Impermanence: The world we live in is a world of Suōpó. It is filled with regrets everywhere, and everywhere there is incompleteness. The beauty we possess may turn into desolation in the blink of an eye. All that we cling to will ultimately lead to pain and regret. Only by accepting impermanence can we live without worry or fear, and be straightforward and composed.

19. Is it only after recognizing emptiness that one can be said to have begun the true practice?

20. The enlightened person is still humble, and the enlightened person would not claim to have been enlightened. Why wouldn't they claim it? This is because the enlightened person still has a bit of attachment that has not been fully eradicated. Why don't they speak of it?

21. Therefore, the true meaning of the Buddha is the awakened one, that is, the one who has realized the Dharma. As Huangbo Chan Master said, "To cultivate the Six Perfections and seek to become a Buddha is to follow a sequence, yet there is no sequence to the Buddha from the beginningless past."

22. Although the wise man cannot bestow that treasure upon you, he will give you a map to seek the treasure. As you follow the map to search, day after day, never giving up, sooner or later, the gemstone destined for you will shine with dazzling light.

23. Your assurance is not to suppress your own thoughts in order to achieve a lifeless calm like still water. This is something that many people often misunderstand.

24. Many so-called upholders of the emptiness and clarity actually have not truly entered into the emptiness and clarity, so how can they talk about upholding it?

25. Is the Tao cultivated? The Tao is inherently complete, naturally as it is, inherently eternal, unchanging, and independent, unalterable. It cannot be created or altered; it can only be understood.

26. The only true path in life is self-realization; in the end, life is just a series of experiences, life and death are just a breath apart, and love and hate are just a thought away.

27. Of course, many people now also believe that the best way to deal with desires is to satisfy them and then let them go. However, this is like a person who is extremely thirsty using seawater to quench their thirst, what would be the result? They would only become more thirsty with each sip.

28. After enlightenment, there is still a sense of differentiation, but the difference is that the differentiation after realization is cultivated through realization, while the innate ego-clinging is something that one is born with in life.

29. Cultivation is a realm, it is changing, it is impermanent, it is a causally conditioned phenomenon, it is a process of arising and ceasing, and it is endless, "From birth to death, if you sit, you cannot lie down; if you lie down, you cannot sit. It's just a smelly skeleton; where can one perform spiritual practices?"

30. Therefore, the Buddha said, a good knowledge master is the whole of your spiritual practice. It is rare to obtain a human body, and even more rare to find a good knowledge master. The fifty-three visits of the Young Wealthy Boy to different spiritual masters is to seek a good knowledge master who can enlighten him.

31. Perfect recognition is enlightenment, and enlightenment means being factual and realistic, which is the understanding and grasp of the true nature of things.

32. At the moment of enlightenment, you will see the truth of this world as a blind person sees light, and possess a true perception.

33. The enlightened person has also obtained the Dharma medicine for the Buddha and Bodhisattvas to save all beings. Only the enlightened person can expound on the teachings in accordance with the Four Standards of Practice. Therefore, the enlightened person, having realized the Dharma, is able to save all beings.

34. To achieve peace of mind, you do not need to seek a picturesque scenery, nor do you need to retire to the mountains. Just extinguish the fire of desire in your heart, and your restless mind will naturally find coolness and tranquility.

35. The study of listening, contemplating, and meditating, also known as Pramana Shastra, is the most highly valued field of study in Buddhism. Without the study of listening, contemplating, and meditating, one cannot understand, reflect upon, or address the issues that arise during practice. One will not be able to develop doubt, nor can one observe the problems.

36. Enlightenment is about resolving the question "Who am I," while cultivation is about taking action. "The more one learns, the more one gains" is akin to polishing a brick into a mirror, while "the more one cultivates the Tao, the more one loses" refers to cultivation after enlightenment; polishing a brick into a mirror is like a dream, illusion, and bubble, while the cultivation after enlightenment is about "maintaining" (the rest of the sentence is cut off).

37. Because a enlightened person preaches the Dharma, teaches, and even speaks in their daily life, all are the manifestation of the wisdom of enlightenment from their true nature. Whatever they say, whatever they teach, will not be wrong. Although the wisdom of an enlightened person has not reached the realm of Buddha and bodhisattvas, they are also very self-aware. They will not speak foolishly, nor will they speak in error. They acknowledge what they know and are aware of what they do not know. Therefore, an enlightened person will not make mistakes in what they say.

38. Enlightenment is the realization of the Dharma. After realizing the Dharma, how should one practice? It's not that everything is done after realizing the Dharma and just waiting to become a Buddha. Realizing the Dharma is the beginning of practice. Why do I say that? Because after realizing the Dharma, one becomes an Arhat of the first stage, and there is still a long journey from the first stage to the tenth stage. Enlightenment is the realization of the emptiness principle, which means seeing the true nature, seeing the true face of one's own life, and recognizing the true self. Recognizing oneself is exactly the right time for practice!

39. After Sakyamuni realized enlightenment under the bodhi tree, he traveled around, teaching the Dharma and converting people. His main teaching was about: impermanence and the non-self.

40. The process of cultivation is a journey of becoming more aware of oneself. If you don't even know what being aware means, how can you walk the path of cultivation well?

41. When the mind shuts down, the heart's gate naturally opens. As long as thinking continues, the heart's gate will never open.

42. As the saying goes, the Buddha saves those who are destined. One is their own Buddha; only by believing in oneself can one rescue themselves.

43. When a person stops indulging in delusions and views himself and everything around with a complete heart, then his mind is at peace. To act in this peace, doing what one should do, is the way of the Buddha, it is to follow the Way according to the Heavenly order, it is the natural way of the Tao, naturally and spontaneously!

44. The practice after enlightenment can also be divided into two stages. First, the state of being unmoved in a passive state. For example, when listening to someone speak or watching someone do things, being still and listening, silent and observing, one can achieve the state of "being at peace in one's original place, unmoved in the face of situations." Second, the state of being unmoved in an active state.

45. The Buddha said: The Buddha is a person who has come from the past, and a person is a future Buddha. Only when a person achieves self-realization can he become a Buddha. All things are suffering, and only by crossing oneself can one be saved. When the people you encounter hurt you, do not sorrow or harbor resentment. Everything is fate, destined to be repaid. When the problems you encounter cannot be solved, do not lose heart. Learn to try to accept them, because what you are destined to experience will eventually happen. Why not experience it a step ahead?

46. Therefore, whether you have truly realized enlightenment, and whether the emptiness you perceive is the true emptiness, must be verified by the teacher for you.

47. All that humans possess has been created in such a way that it appears to be real.

48. This innate ego-attachment must be gradually eradicated through meditative practices after enlightenment, little by little, until the achievement of Buddhahood at the tenth stage.

49. The practice has no expiration, enlightenment lies within a single thought, "All the divine abilities are mere skills, only emptiness is the great path."

50. Everything is an apparition of self-awareness, life is like a dream, like a movie, like a play. The fame, wealth, and material goods we pursue are all fleeting like clouds. The parents, children, and partners we cling to are merely a part of life's journey, destined to part. Even the physical body we can't let go of is only a temporary shell, ultimately not belonging to you.

51. Every kind of trouble has its own way of dealing with it; self-realization is the best practice.

52. The so-called "degree" refers to salvation. If you have faith in Buddhism and in the Buddha, you can also achieve self-salvation through your faith in the Buddha. The difference between attaining salvation through faith and attaining immediate liberation is a difference in levels of cultivation.
