1. In this world, there is suffering everywhere, and only one can save oneself. Like a fish drinking water, only the fish itself knows whether it is warm or cold.
2. Since the Ten Stages can transform recognition into wisdom, there is no need to elaborate much on this issue here. Instead, let's focus on how to begin practice after realizing one's nature, which is the practice that follows enlightenment.
3. There is never a safe haven in life; everyone grows up amidst storms and trudges through hardships. All experiences are the stepping stones to your maturity; all pain and suffering are the badges of honor for your transformation and emergence.
4. What should you let go of? It's about letting go of your mind, letting go of your thoughts!
5. In this thin and cool world, there is no boatman to ferry people across. One must cross by oneself. Whether you live a happy or unhappy life, no one will care, because joy and sorrow do not communicate with each other, so people cannot empathize with each other.
6. Use giving to counteract the greed within the mind; the anger is one's own temperament. Learn to control one's own temperament, and use tolerance to counteract the inner anger. Foolishness refers to ignorance and lack of wisdom; arrogance refers to treating others haughtily, always looking down on others; suspicion is about doubt, not believing others.
7. However, there are many convenient methods for simple incense cultivation, but true enlightenment depends on a good teacher. That is to say, in order to truly find peace of mind, one must understand one's true nature and see one's true self; in order to understand one's true nature and see one's true self, one must find one's root teacher.
8. The Buddha said: The Buddha is a person who has come from the past, and a person is a Buddha to be. Only when a person realizes themselves can they become a Buddha. All things are suffering, but only self-redemption can save you. When the people you meet hurt you, do not be sad or resentful. Everything is destiny, meant to be repaid. When the problems you encounter cannot be solved, do not lose heart. Learn to try to accept them, because what you need to experience will eventually happen, why not experience it a step earlier.
9. Crossing oneself is a form of wisdom, while crossing the heart is a journey of cultivation. In the unpredictable journey of life, one experiences both warmth and coldness firsthand, and bears both suffering and joy by oneself!
10. Do not care whether others love you or not, even don't care about your parents, partners, or children's love for you. Do not worry about how others perceive you or evaluate you, as it is none of your business and has nothing to do with you. Also, don't concern yourself with whether this world is dark or bright; whatever it is, you cannot change it.
11. On the path of life, each person is a solitary traveler. Amidst the myriad scenes of the world, the ups and downs of joy and sorrow, only one can cross their own path, and others cannot help but watch helplessly.
12. Enlightenment is about liberating oneself, which is very important. However, to truly understand this principle, one must experience it firsthand. It requires listening and contemplating, contemplating and acting, and acting with verification. Therefore, listening, contemplating, and practicing play a very important role in the process of following the teachings of Buddhism.
13. There are two reasons. Firstly, "enlightenment" itself is something that can only be perceived and cannot be expressed in words, and we fear it might fall into the trap of verbal expression. Secondly, to avoid those who think they are experts in theory but lack practical experience, who may become self-righteous after reading it, when in fact they are not.
14. When it comes to enlightenment, many distinguished sages and knowledgeable individuals have taught on this topic, but their teachings are not easy to understand for the general public.
15. Enlightenment is seeing the Way. After seeing the Way, how should one cultivate? It's not that everything is done after seeing the Way and one just waits to become a Buddha. Seeing the Way is the beginning of cultivation. Why is that? Because after seeing the Way, one becomes an initial stage bodhisattva. From the initial stage to the tenth stage, there is still a long journey to go. Enlightenment is the realization of the emptiness principle, which is seeing the true nature, seeing the true face of one's own life, recognizing the true self, and recognizing oneself is the best time for cultivation!
16. Some people do not seek out a good teacher, instead they focus their mind by reciting Buddha's name, which is also a valid approach. However, without a teacher and without entering into the lineage, it is like an unlit light bulb; it cannot illuminate itself. Therefore, simply reciting Buddha's name cannot lead to immediate liberation. But reciting Buddha's name is also good, because it is easy to cultivate faith, and with faith comes liberation.
17. When the wind blows, learn to dance with it; when it rains, learn to hold your own umbrella.
18. If it is truly clear and empty, maintaining it is certainly the best practice. But if you mistakenly take a yet unverified sensation as clear and empty, you may end up on a wrong path.
19. So-called practice first and then enlightenment is actually a misdirection, which is a "conceptual attachment" based on the "ego attachment."
20. This reminds me of when I watched "The Odd One Out," and Ma Weiví said that during her depression, Gao Xiaosong comforted her by saying:
21. For, everything outside can no longer pollute you, nor can it shake your state of realization. It is only at this point that we can talk about "not taking forms, and remaining as it is." Not taking forms means overcoming the烦恼 and attachment to all labels; remaining as it is means being like a mirror, where no matter how the external scenes change, they cannot disturb the tranquility of your mind.
22. Life is an experience from the outside to the inside. Only by exploring inwardly can one resist the various noises and chaos from the outside, and can one clean the impurities within the heart. When the heart is clean, it blossoms like a lotus, and when it blossoms, dragonflies come naturally.
23. We are adults now, gradually understanding the impermanence of life and knowing that life will bring countless unforeseen hardships. In this arduous practice of life, we are both participants and spectators. When happy, we can laugh heartily, and when sad, we can also cry deeply. But regardless of the situation, the taste of it is all experienced by ourselves.
24. Abandon any expectations of anyone else, live for oneself in the world of one's own, carrying burdens on the path of life filled with mud and obstacles, silently strengthening oneself. Do not share your joys and sorrows with others, do not expect others to help you transcend the sea of suffering, and do not care about anyone's attitude towards you. The world is your own, and has nothing to do with others.
25. Not recognizing oneself but pretending to know, from then on becoming lazy in one's own cultivation. If so, wouldn't the great virtuous ones be committing the fault of cutting off others' wisdom life? Moreover, "enlightenment" itself is a matter of the mind and nature. It is a matter known only to oneself!
26. May we, having endured the vicissitudes of life, learn to mend the hearts that have been wounded, purify our souls, be content with what we have, and be able to navigate through our own lives and hearts.
27. I deeply agree with this. Even when faced with adversity, there is no need to be anxious or afraid. What one should be afraid of is sinking into degeneracy and losing one's original intentions, leading to a negative and pessimistic outlook, stopping in one's tracks, immersed in suffering, self-reproachful and self-pitying, unwilling to take a step forward, and watching the sky high and clouds faint, feeling the warmth of the sun.
28. Of course, many people also believe nowadays that the best way to deal with desires is to satisfy them and then let them go. However, this is like a person who is severely thirsty using seawater to quench their thirst; what will the result be? They will only become more thirsty with each sip.
29. For instance, when one speaks or acts for oneself, one's habits automatically follow suit. It is easier not to be moved by the heart when one is passive, but more difficult when one is proactive. If one is truly a person of spiritual cultivation, they commonly see their own faults. If they do not see their own faults, then they are not a cultivator on the path to enlightenment. To commonly see one's own faults and transform them without intention, this is what it means to enlighten and save sentient beings.
30. This suddenly made me realize how lonely an experience we are going through.
31. These three points are secrets to those who are not enlightened; they are secrets that are clearly told to you. Why do I say that? Because you do not understand, and not understanding is the greatest secret.
32. As the saying goes, Buddha saves those who have the cause. In reality, one's self is one's own Buddha. Only by believing in oneself can one rescue oneself.
33. Hearing, contemplating, and practicing (also known as the study of wisdom) is also referred to as "wisdom studies" in Buddhism, which is the most highly valued among all wisdom studies. Without hearing, contemplating, and practicing, one cannot understand, ponder, or address the issues that arise during practice. One will not be able to cultivate doubt, and thus, cannot observe the problems.
34. This is not a tranquil state achieved through effort, but a natural life condition.
35. Those who have awakened to enlightenment have also obtained the method and medicine for the Buddha and bodhisattvas to save all sentient beings. Only those who have awakened can expound scriptures and teachings in a way that conforms to the standards of the "Four Established Truths," thus those who have realized enlightenment are capable of benefiting sentient beings.
36. The thrilling joy you experience may seem like boasting and arrogance to others; the heart-wrenching pain you endure might just be a dust particle swept aside in someone else's eyes. No one will smile with delight at your achievements; instead, they will be more envious and dislike you, for no one wishes to be outshone by others. No one will feel sympathy for your failures; they will be more contemptuous and distant, as no one wants to be associated with someone in a downfall.
37. 工作失意时,远方的朋友也不能分担心里的焦虑;
37. When one is disappointed in their job, even friends from afar cannot share the anxiety in their hearts.
38. There is no one in the world who does not have wounds, and the only one who can truly heal yourself is you."
39. Therefore, the Buddha said, a good friend is the whole of your spiritual life. It is rare to be reborn as a human being, and even rarer to meet a good friend. The fifty-three visits of the Youth of Great Wealth are to find a good friend who can enlighten him.
40. Life is a journey of cultivation, experiencing the ups and downs, tasting the myriad flavors of the world, and sensing the vicissitudes of time. The bitter, sweet, sour, spicy, and salty provided by life can only be tasted by oneself.
41. At the moment of enlightenment, you will see the truth of this world as a blind person sees light, and possess a right view.
42. An enlightened person will be very confident, because they have found the root of life. Confidence, in this sense, refers to the profound understanding and unwavering certainty of one's own life essence. Confidence is not for others to see; it does not require proof, and it has nothing to do with the external world. In the words of the Sixth Patriarch of Chan Buddhism, Huìnéng: "One who can skillfully differentiate the nature of all phenomena remains undisturbed in the ultimate truth."
43. Your joy may be刺激刺激 others' sorrow, your sadness may be overwhelmed by laughter and joy, the achievements you are proud of may seem trivial to others, and the heart-wrenching pain you feel cannot be endured by anyone else.
44. When "Lijima" first arrived in Shanghai, Anna had just ended her last relationship, which lasted for four years. On the day before the anniversary, she found out that her boyfriend had been unfaithful. After the breakup, she went home to heal her wounds and then learned that her mother had fallen seriously ill. The double blow of love and family suddenly turned her once happy life into a silent and gloomy one.
