1. President Liu Chuanzhi's desire for development has not been satisfied yet. Last year, Lenovo attempted to acquire the Dutch computer company, Pico Electronics, but the deal ended in vain due to interference from competitors. Lenovo will continue to focus on the merger and acquisition endeavors in the computer industry in the future."
2. It is known that he is a leader with extraordinary charm. However, his first impression on the journalists was undoubtedly that of an amiable uncle next door. During the interview that lasted over two hours, he seemed to be chatting with friends, making the experience very comfortable. 4.
4. "IT is a field for the young. Young sprinters perform better at it. For us, golf and long-distance running seem to be more suitable. We visit Lenovo's American headquarters about three times a year. When Lenovo makes important decisions, I only provide opinions as a director. I do not participate in the specific operations. Of course, I will listen to reports on the operations whenever they are available."
5. "The most important thing is to provide a stage for them to showcase their abilities. After that, clarify the scope of business, responsibilities, powers, and the benefits they can ultimately obtain. The rest is up to them. Let them figure out how to do better on their own. We call this approach the 'engine culture,' where the cadres are the big engines, and other employees should become smaller engines that run in sync with the big engine, so the power will be greater. The lower-level employees should not become the transmission mechanism of the engine."
6. Do not expect or rely on anyone else; you are your own sole support. Rely on yourself, continuously enhance your abilities, and empower yourself, so that you can secure a place for yourself.

8. Who is Liu Chuanzhi? He is the founder of Lenovo, the largest private enterprise in China, equivalent to Samsung Electronics in South Korea, and the president of Legend Holdings (Lenovo's parent company), who is often referred to as "China's Bill Gates." 9.
9. Lenovo is recently engaging in competition with Apple in the ultra-thin laptop market. Following the launch of the world's thinnest laptop, "MacBook Air," by Apple's CEO Steve Jobs in January of this year, Lenovo also introduced the "ThinkPad X300." Although the Lenovo X300 series has a weight advantage of 0.003 kilograms, it is significantly thicker than the MacBook Air. (The dimensions of the X300 range from 185 to 234 centimeters, while the MacBook Air is only 41 to 193 centimeters).

11. After ending the interview, he pointed to the bronze cow statue next to the window of the office adjacent to the reception room. Below the statue were the prominent characters "Tension," which were quite eye-catching.
12. In 1984, with 10 researchers working together, Liu Chuanzhi established a small computer company named "Lenovo" with 200,000 yuan in startup capital provided by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The company achieved a sales revenue of 3 million yuan in its first year of operation. Subsequently, in 1986 and 1987, it recorded stunning sales revenues of 18 million yuan and 70 million yuan, respectively. He said, "At that time, I believed that only cutting-edge IT technology could help China shake off poverty."
13. I have seen a wonderful metaphor: "The human brain is like a warehouse, where the information obtained from the outside world becomes the stock in this warehouse. If there is a lack of curiosity and no habit of learning, the stock in this warehouse will gradually be exhausted."
14. The President of Lenovo Group, Liu Chuanzhi, is hailed as the "Godfather" of China's IT industry. He possesses a tenacious will that dares to face difficulties and dangers, along with a calm demeanor and a spirit that is not afraid of challenges from competition.
15. If your mind is enriched and wise, no difficulty can stand in your way.
16. Lenovo Group President Liu Chuanzhi said: "We have developed based on the proprietary technology of advanced foreign enterprises and the principles of overseas business textbooks, combined with our own actual situation. I would say that foreign enterprises are good at making fine cuisine according to menus. However, our situation often changes, so we must understand the method of making things locally adapted and time-appropriate."
17. He has recently become very obsessed with golf. During the summer, he would often finish playing 9 holes at the golf course near his home by 7:00 AM every morning before going to work. His work hours start around 10:00 AM. Liu Chuanzhi said, "I have been gradually reducing my working hours recently. I do have professional businesspeople on my team."
18. He claims that he believes he does better in cultivating talents than others, as he places a very high value on this aspect. He said that the first driving force for Lenovo to grow into a world-class company is the emphasis on talents.
19. When it comes to the "Liu Chuanzhi-style" management, it is inevitable to mention the "Bucket Theory" and the "One Fingertip Theory" he proposed. The so-called "Bucket Theory" refers to the fact that the amount of water a bucket made up of several planks can hold depends on the shortest plank, and similarly, the quality of a company depends on its weakest part, thus it is necessary to compensate for the company's weaknesses. The "One Fingertip Theory" suggests that it is the middle finger when the hand is spread open that can pierce into others, hence the need to cultivate core competitiveness. In brief, one should first compensate for the company's weaknesses and then cultivate core competitiveness. Now, this has become a management theory that Chinese enterprises eagerly imitate.
20. "When you can't bear it anymore, you also want to find a support, but no matter how you look for one, you'll find that some mountains are covered with thorns, and some are filled with beasts, so you should be your own mountain."
21. "Absolutely not. My idea is to cultivate the core management team of the company, making them the owners of the company. This way, we can achieve better performance. Lenovo should become a 'family company without family members.' Family members running a business tend to treat it as their personal property. Moreover, if the management is solely entrusted to family members, it is easy to lose other capable talents. Lenovo cannot become such a company. All employees should be united as a family."
22. "A person may not have love, freedom, health, or money, but we must have a mood. If you yearn for health and beauty, if you cherish every moment of life, if you wish to add brightness and joy to this world, and if you face the sun even when you fall, then, forge your mood. Let our steady, tranquil, broad, and transparent hearts cover every morning and night of life."
联想总部在美国,CEO(首席执行官)也是美国人。
23. The extreme enthusiasm of the Chinese people for Liu Chuanzhi is not without reason. In 2004, he acquired the computer division of American IBM for $17.5 billion, making it a global hot topic. It was as if David had defeated Goliath; for South Korea, it was akin to the general manager of a computer assembly company in龙山 Electronic Business Street acquiring the top American computer enterprise. Lenovo's headquarters are in the United States, and its CEO is also an American. Lenovo is one of the world's three largest computer manufacturers, with an annual production capacity of 2.02 million computers, and has about 250,000 employees in over 60 countries, including South Korea. He is a symbol of China's power taking a leap forward in the world.
24. "Each stage is different. During the difficult times of the company's operation from 1996 to 1997, I was busy running back and forth between Beijing and Hong Kong. At that time, the words 'Do not be anxious' were written above my desk. After the company's situation improved, I wanted to do bigger things, and the motto changed to 'Great Perseverance'. It means to establish long-term goals and persevere to the end." (The two large characters "Great Perseverance" are still hanging in his office.)
25. "Very simple. I believe that the Chinese market has developed to such a scale that it should go global, become a global brand, in order to gain profits and grow stronger. Powerful enterprises must go global. Just like South Korea's Samsung and LG."
26. After the Cultural Revolution began in 1966, he was sent to rural areas in Guangdong and Hunan to engage in physical labor. At that time, intellectuals were required to undergo labor reeducation in the countryside.
27. "As an entrepreneur, I make money through scientific and technological achievements and bring production benefits to society, which makes me feel like I am involved in a greater cause. I believe I am good at management, and this ability seems to be even more effective in the process of running a business. I not only don't regret not becoming a pilot, but I am also very glad I didn't. Later, after the physical examination, I found out that I have sleep disorders, so I may not be a good pilot (laughs)."
28. The personnel structure he led is no less distinctive than that of top-tier Western enterprises. It is thoroughly focused on results and capabilities. When he was 29 years old, that is, just five years after joining the company, Yang Yuanqing, the Chairman of the Lenovo Group, was promoted to the General Manager of the Computer Division. In 2001, he was promoted to General Manager, and in 2005, he was promoted to Chairman, truly a "fast-track promotion."
29. He said, "People who are dissatisfied with China's reform and opening-up should go to North Korea and take a look. It will surprise them. They will marvel at how poor it is there. You can't just say 'Kim Il-sung'; you have to say 'Chairman Kim Il-sung' or 'General Kim Jong-il', which is truly麻烦 (troublesome)."
30. He said that Deng Xiaoping was the person who had the greatest impact on his own life. "Without him, there would have been no reform and opening up, China would have been very poor. Of course, there would also not be the me of today."
31. "I believe that in small companies, working hard is more important, while in large companies, management is more significant. I always feel that nurturing talents is crucial when I am engaged in tasks. Today, Lenovo can launch new businesses in various fields because there are many young talents who are making their mark, and this is related to 'intuition'. I never attribute all the good performance to my own credit, nor do I seek to hold all the power in my hands. I have provided a platform for staff to showcase their abilities."
32. We need to learn to enrich our minds. A good mind is a formidable weapon that can conquer all challenges on the path of life.
33. It is precisely because he possesses a wide range of knowledge and receives information from different levels that he is so exceptionally wise, brilliant, and adaptable.
34. Question: You didn't become a pilot and chose another path instead; have you ever regretted it?
35. If he were to solely focus on continuously expanding the business and increasing wealth, he would never join the ranks of respected entrepreneurs. He has been practicing the sharing business model from an early stage and is respected by the Chinese. The Legend Holdings Co., Ltd. under his presidency, as the holding company of Lenovo, owns 46% of the shares. However, he only owns 2% of the shares in Legend Holdings Co., Ltd.
36. To establish oneself in society and achieve success, the most fundamental thing is to arm one's mind. With knowledge, wisdom, and strategies in one's head, one can penetrate the essence of things, make correct decisions, and thus move towards success.
37. Question: What was the opportunity that led to the bold challenge of acquiring IBM?
38. "Firstly, one must understand how to set clear goals. I'm talking about very specific goals. I believe that only by painting a clear picture of the future can we lead the whole company forward together. Secondly, having morality and integrity is essential. Thirdly, there is the emotional aspect. One must have a broadmindedness to include people, which can foster unity and effective communication. Of course, knowledge and ability are also very necessary, and leaders must be good at learning." He mentioned that he felt he had a few strengths over others when running the company. "When the company was first established, there were 10 people, but due to insufficient funds, we couldn't pay them according to their workload. To unite people and bring them together, it had to be me who set an example. So, I did many things but took very little for myself, and in this way, others also followed suit. I think, compared to young people today, I am different in this aspect. From the establishment of the company to the present, I have always prioritized the interests of the company. And in doing business, I have never engaged in any factionalism. Since there are no factions, there is no issue of 'whose people'."
39. He mentioned that there were two points in the book worth learning. "Firstly, the best way to reduce social contradictions such as the wealth gap in a country is to first focus on development and boost the economy. Then, let nature take its course to solve the problems. Otherwise, one will end up on the populism path. Artificially achieving equality will take a route similar to that of Argentina and Peru, making it difficult to develop the economy."
40. How does he view money and wealth? Liu Chuanzhi said, "My perspective on material wealth has been constantly changing. Ten years ago, I thought that the better the car I drove and the bigger the house I lived in, the more respect people would have for me. However, when I saw the scene of former colleagues riding bicycles outside the car window, I felt very painful in my heart. I believe that spiritual wealth is more important. The happiest thing is to see colleagues getting what they deserve and living their lives with a joyful spirit. The colleagues who started the business with me have all retired now, but they all still hold stocks, so as the company grows, they can also enjoy a better life."
41. Editor's Note: This exclusive interview with Liu Chuanzhi by The Chosun Ilbo is a gift to Buddha, offered to the readers.
42. Liu Chuanzhi, who founded Lenovo in 1984, still vividly remembers the event of attending the IBM dealer conference the following year. At the time, he was sitting in the back row wearing his father's old suit. It was an experience that was both fresh and astonishing. Not long after, he began to act as an agent for selling IBM computers in the Chinese market.
43. "The ox with horns on its head is busily searching for an opportunity, preparing to gather its strength and launch forward. Lenovo is also in such a state right now." I wonder what grand and magnificent dreams are surging in his heart once again.
44. Liu Chuanzhi's dream as a child was to become a pilot, which was also a career that many people aspired to at the time. After graduating from high school in 1961, he took the exam to become a pilot, but he was disqualified because his uncle was a rightist. He had to change his initial intention and entered the Xi'an Military Electronic Technology University. Liu Chuanzhi mainly studied radar-related knowledge, which had some similarities with his future path in computers. This experience became the foundation for his future career in the computer industry.

45. Question: Many entrepreneurs return to the front line of operations after establishing a professional management system. Don't you have such an idea?
46. "The biggest factor is undoubtedly China's reform and opening up. During the Cultural Revolution, nothing could be accomplished. The second is to set very high goals and to work tirelessly towards achieving them. Only by setting very high goals can one move forward towards them. The third is to keep learning, not just book knowledge. I have learned a lot from foreign companies. Employees of American companies in China are excellent teachers."
47. If asked who represents Chinese entrepreneurs, nine out of ten people would probably choose Liu Chuanzhi or Zhang Ruimin, the president of Haier Group. According to the American magazine "Fortune", the computer company Lenovo founded by Liu Chuanzhi achieved sales of $14.6 billion in 2006, ranking first among private enterprises. (Including state-owned enterprises, Lenovo is ranked 11th in China.)

48. If you are exceptionally capable and have the skills, then there is nothing that can bring you down.
49. Every time a crisis arises, Liu Chuanzhi will rise like an indestructible top. He said, "In 1987, I was deceived and lost 3 million yuan, which was the most difficult period in managing my business." After Liu Chuanzhi exchanged 3 million yuan to Hong Kong dollars, he was deceived by the people from a trade company in Shenzhen, and the scammers fled with the money.

51. Liu Chuanzhi: "Each stage is somewhat different. During the difficult period of 1996-1997 when the company was facing difficulties, I was busy traveling between Beijing and Hong Kong. At that time, the word 'No Haste' was written above my desk. After the company's situation improved, I wanted to do something bigger, and the motto changed to 'Enlarging the firm, enduring the hardships'. It means to establish long-term goals and persevere to the end." In summer, he would almost finish nine holes at the nearby golf course every morning at 7 o'clock before going to work. He would start work around 10 o'clock.
52. Zhuge Liang was intelligent and knowledgeable, and could always find a way to defeat his enemies at any time. He once said:
