Faced with an unexpected predicament, returning kindness for grievances is the way to resolve it.
1. Even if he still cannot perceive your goodness, doing so shows that your levels, perspectives, and wisdom are different.
2. Not avenging one's enemies is not the way of a gentleman, which means that a gentleman must necessarily rise to fight against his enemies or resentment in order to be considered a gentleman. Not returning a punch for a punch, not retaliating in words, even if one's left cheek is struck, offering the right cheek for someone to strike as well, is the extent of tolerance that a gentleman can have. Such tolerance implies that the person being struck is indeed wrong, believing that being struck is something they deserve. Alternatively, the person striking may be a relative or a friend; or there may be a significant disparity in strength, making the person struck utterly defenseless.
3. In life, we encounter all sorts of troubles and a variety of people, including good ones and bad ones; kind-hearted people and scoundrels; trashy individuals, as well as gentlemen who are warm and noble as jade.
4. I have no power over how others treat me, but how I treat others is a reflection of my character and cultivation. The most magnanimous approach is to be kind to those who put you in difficult situations, to help those who dislike you, and to praise those who speak ill of you.
5. Therefore, the best way to deal with those who trouble you, those who dislike you, and those who speak ill of you is to show kindness in return for their ill will.
6. Because many things need to be measured by their degree, many words are related to the context, environment, and time period they are in, so there are rarely absolute truths that apply universally. Everything requires dialectics; the simple arithmetic of being either black or white is very rare in real life.
7. To repay enmity with kindness is not the act of a coward, but rather a manifestation of strength. Here are two examples: Zhang Xiu launched a battle against Cao Cao, killing Cao Cao's son, nephew, and beloved general. Later, Zhang Xiu submitted to Cao Cao, who forgave him without seeking revenge, and even recommended Zhang Xiu to become the General of Chariots and Cavalry, granting him high-ranking positions and generous salaries, allowing him to enjoy his later years in peace.
8. This is a life that cannot be replayed, so please try to be happy and at ease. Always believe that all the beautiful things are not far away.
9. When a mischievous child curses at you, the best response is not to curse back but to give them a hug. If someone unappreciative dislikes you, the best response is not to dislike them in return, but to help them wholeheartedly, making them feel their ignorance and shallowness. If someone always whisper bad things about you behind your back, you should often praise them in public and in private, making them feel ashamed and without a place to hide.
10. If you struggle with a fierce dragon, you will also become a dragon. If you gaze into the abyss for too long, the abyss will gaze back at you. Each person has a unique frequency and magnetic field, and it is inevitable that we will encounter some people who do not fit in with us, some people who are not friendly to us, and even some people who always think of ways to trouble us. The best response to these people is not to take them lightly. If you get angry, worry, or try to retaliate with their own methods, that means you are at the same level as them. It means your life energy is too low, your outlook is too narrow, your quality is too low, and your wisdom is shallow.
11. A very favorite quote: "Emotions are a difficult flower to nurture; when they can no longer bear it, allow yourself to wither for a few days, and then continue to live well."
12. This is not weakness, but strength. Those who trouble you, dislike you, and spread rumors about you are truly pitiful people. They fail to recognize their own lowliness and nastiness, they don't understand that they are committing misdeeds, and they are doing things that are eroding their own blessings. Do not be on the same level as them; it's like we don't need to care about a ant's fierce display or ignore a fly's angry frown.
13. How others treat me is my karma; how I treat others is my cultivation.
14. There was an assassin who went to assassinate Liu Bei, but the plot was uncovered. However, Liu Bei showed great concern for him, expressing both warmth and care. The assassin felt so ashamed that he couldn't help but submit to Liu Bei's kindness.
15. In this complex world, I am still living well. In life, some bring flowers, while others throw mud at me. I do not boast about the flowers nor do I care about the mud; instead, I plant flowers with the mud.
16. A very relieving statement: "Throughout one's life, there are always people who guide you, who love and protect you, putting you first, and there are also those who hurt and anger you, making you endure all sorts of injustices. No matter how others treat you, it's all part of their journey of guiding you."
17. If there is a significant disparity in strength and the person who is beaten is innocent, once the seeds of hatred are sown, phrases like "A gentleman's revenge can wait ten years" and "A person who does not avenge their grievances is not a gentleman" will spread in their heart until they erupt. If "revenge must be avenged" is considered a gentlemanly behavior, then "not avenging grievances but repaying kindness" or even "repaying resentment with virtue" must be the behavior of a sage. Enemies should be resolved rather than established, and endless cycles of revenge will never end.
18. Enmity can be resolved. As a true gentleman, one can transform weapons into jade, and instead of seeking revenge, one can repay ill will with virtue, thereby being honored as a sage. A sage is certainly a person of ultimate goodness and beauty, which means "a person with complete talent and virtue is called a sage," not an ordinary person. Rather, a sage is one of great moral stature and wisdom, transcending the egocentric realm of ordinary people, and reaching the highest and most perfect境界 of selflessness and concern for others.
19. How others treat me is my karma; how I treat others is my cultivation. Destiny cannot be avoided if there is a connection, and it cannot be encountered if there is no connection. When the connection arises, we gather; when it dissipates, we disperse. We go with the flow.
20. The reason is that the definition of a gentleman is not someone who is overly kind and good-natured, but someone who knows how to differentiate between right and wrong. As the saying goes, "Repay good with good and evil with evil." If you are harmed by someone, you must make a proper response. For instance, if your rights are violated, you must strive for your own interests. In necessary cases, you must resort to legal means. This is a necessary condition to become a "gentleman."
