On the vast path of exploration, wisdom acts as a compass, guiding ordinary people through thickets and thorns, embarking on a series of vibrant and exciting life journeys.
1. Everyone thinks of philosophy as being very complex, feeling obscure and difficult to understand, but in fact, they have all fallen into a misconception.
2. There's nothing too serious in life. Don't worry unnecessarily, don't indulge in daydreams, don't look for trouble, and don't take on things that aren't yours.
3. Philosophy is the mother of all disciplines. When we ask what philosophy truly is, it itself is a philosophical question. Philosophy is a field of study, and studying philosophy is an act. The easiest acquisition from studying philosophy is philosophical thinking, which mainly includes three categories: first, the openness of thought; second, the critical nature of thinking; and third, the logicality of reasoning.
4. It is no surprise when you encounter someone who seems depressed after studying philosophy, as their cognitive concepts have shifted; just as a child wonders why an adult finds it hard to laugh, when one's perception and ideas about the world change, so does one's image to others! This kind of growth is like the process of a child growing into an adult, as if it happens in a blink of an eye, or subtly and imperceptibly.
5. If it is close to your own values and outlook on life, you can selectively read. If there are different opinions, there is no need to quickly negate yourself and agree with the book.
6. In spring there are many flowers, in autumn there is the moon, in summer there is a cool breeze, and in winter there is snow. If there are no idle matters weighing on one's mind, then it is a wonderful season in the human world.
7. Therefore, philosophy has gradually fallen into a predicament. Generally speaking, it's best to stay away from it unless you can ensure that you'll be able to climb out of it yourself!
8. As long as we do not burden our hearts with matters, remaining calm, serene, empty, and unencumbered, we can allow our entire body, mind, and spirit to be in a state of tranquility and harmony, reaching the realm of open-minded freedom in life.
9. There was originally no trouble in the world, but it was the silly people who made a fuss about it.
10. Regardless of which one, philosophy brings more profound thinking to people.
11. For each age group, there are books that are appropriate to read at that age. If philosophy makes you depressed, then you can take a break. It's not too late to wait a few years and read them then.
12. The deeper one thinks and the more one contemplates, the more "depressed" one naturally becomes, but the heart also becomes more indifferent to many things, living more transparently. Therefore, I believe that philosophy is actually a double-edged sword, it can make one depressed, yet it also enables one to break free from depression.
13. We live in this world no different from a mosquito, an ant, or a beetle. Whatever you do or don't do holds no significance. It's better to let go of all the mental knots and allow yourself to be completely at ease, doing nothing, and finding joy in that.
14. It is because the essence of philosophy is to see through the truth of life, and the truth of life is grounded in tragedy.
15. The progress of human culture always comes step by step, through friction and collisions.
16. Now there is an abundance of food, and delicious delicacies are numerous and countless. If we eat without moderation, it will increase the burden on our digestive system, causing difficulties in digestion, and it will also pose certain obstacles to the detoxification system of the liver and kidneys. Over time, it is inevitable that it will damage the organs throughout the body.
17. "The Three Lives give birth to all things" is also an exploration of the essence of this world. So why do we not feel depressed when reading the Tao Te Ching?
18. It can be certainly said that those who like philosophy must enjoy thinking and are also more knowledgeable about human nature. They have a clearer understanding of external things and a more profound insight into human nature. By properly utilizing philosophy, one can live a fulfilling life without caring much for the empty material world and will instead pay more attention to the spiritual world and inner feelings.
19. You must immerse yourself in this oppressive thought, making yourself feel that everything becomes meaningless, others hit you, and you feel indifferent to the pain, others defame you, and you feel indifferent to your reputation.
20. Based on the essential attributes of philosophy, most people who are fond of philosophy themselves tend to be quiet rather than active in nature.
21. Thinking is meant to help us better understand problems, not to get trapped in them.
22. Logical thinking communication follows a very simple formula: you should express your views and reasons as clearly as possible. You should treat your communication counterpart as someone with no background knowledge, preferably as a primary school student, so that you can truly explain it clearly.
23. If you feel depressed while reading philosophy, you are completely free to choose to pause your reading.
24. For example, the philosopher Schopenhauer once said: The most unbearable thing for a person is when those around them are doing better than they are.
25. Liu Zhenyun said: "The worst people now are not those without money, but those who have absolutely no concept of money. Ordering one takeout can buy a chicken at the market. Eating one hotpot is enough for a family to eat for half a month."
26. Open-mindedness is about teaching us how to accept different ideas, how to communicate with people whose worldviews differ from ours, and thus to ponder whether others' thoughts are indeed reasonable, which will fill our minds with inclusiveness.
27. Therefore, as a person gradually approaches philosophy, there is a natural increase in depressive emotions. Even though some philosophical wisdom teaches us to detach from emotions and view life, it is inevitable to also develop depressive thoughts.
28. Whether human nature is inherently good or evil has been a topic of debate for thousands of years, with different voices from ancient to modern times, both within and outside of China. It has been discussed countless times, and various opinions have been expressed, yet there has been no definitive conclusion. In fact, this very exploration is a part of philosophy itself.
29. The character of philosophy will not make people depressed. There are many philosophers, such as Schopenhauer, who are pessimists. To study philosophy, one must study the history of philosophy and deeply read the original works of each representative philosopher. Only then can one gain a comprehensive understanding and common sense and修养. It takes a fairly long process and insight to excel in this aspect, which can also be called wisdom roots. Is it too naive to think that understanding philosophy comes from just memorizing a few quotations? Studying philosophy and depression are two different topics. It is necessary to first figure out where the problem lies. In summary, studying philosophy will not make people depressed. Moreover, studying philosophy is the only effective cure for depression.
30. An ordinary person, when truly delving into the content of philosophy, will begin to ponder questions such as: Who am I? Where am I? Where did I come from? What is the meaning of my existence? And so on, a series of questions that seem to be out of place in the surrounding human world. In a certain sense, what science cannot explain can be made clear through philosophy. Philosophy deepens people's understanding of the world.
31. Because in the Water Margin, there are mostly ruffians from the green woods, who act solely according to their personal likes and dislikes, being impulsive and easily angry. Young people are full of vigor and blood, and after seeing too much of this, it's inevitable that there will be cases of imitation. This is not an alarmist claim; in fact, the "Gwai Go Go" series in Hong Kong has had a significant impact on a large number of people born in the 1980s and 1990s.
32. What do we want to see? To put it simply, it's actually a desire to understand deeper "truths," and behind these "truths" is often the essence of human nature, nothing more than that.
33. This is one way of expressing "philosophy," or we can also call it "philosophical thought," and I believe that most people find this expression quite easy to accept. Instead of asking why life comes into being, why it departs, why we are born, why we die, and where the soul goes.
