2. 能屈能伸是一种成功必备的素质,也是善于将尖锐的思想感情含蓄起来的人的本领,行人所不能行,成人所不能成。正因如此,屈伸战术常常也是一种高级韬略。圣人韬光,能者晦迹,收敛锋芒,隐藏才能,这是成大事者的必定策略。
2. Being able to bend and stretch is an essential quality for success, and it is also a skill of those who are adept at containing sharp thoughts and emotions subtly. It is something that the ordinary cannot do and that the average cannot achieve. That is why the tactics of bending and stretching are often also a form of advanced strategy. Sages hide their brilliance, the capable hide their tracks, they gather their sharpness, and conceal their talents—this is the inevitable strategy for those who seek to accomplish great things.
3. 古话说:“欲要取之,必先与之。”想要得到,先得付出。如果一个人只要得到,不愿付出,最后必然什么也得不到。

If we consider the expanse of the four seas within the context of the universe, isn't it akin to a heap of sand in a vast lake?
5. 忍辱负重到了这个地步,实在千古以来只此一人。由于勾践处处小心伺候吴王,夫差逐渐放松了对他的警惕,三年之后,夫差放勾践回到越国。勾践回到国都会稽后,不近女色,不观歌舞,爱抚群臣,教养百姓,靠自己耕种吃饭,靠妻子织布穿衣,不吃山珍海味,不穿绫罗绸缎。
5. Having endured the burden of suffering to this extent, there has been no one else in the past five thousand years. Due to Goujia's careful and attentive service to King Wu everywhere, Fu Chai gradually relaxed his vigilance towards him. After three years, Fu Chai allowed Goujia to return to his own country, Yue. After Goujia returned to the capital, Jiaxing, he did not indulge in the pleasures of women, did not watch songs and dances, cherished his ministers, educated his people, fed himself by farming, clothed himself with fabrics woven by his wife, did not eat delicacies from the mountains and seas, and did not wear silk, brocade, or damask.

King Fu Chai made them live in a stone house next to his father's tomb, where they were made to tend to the horses for King Wu.

11. 海神说:“井里的青蛙,不可能跟它们谈论大海,是因为受到生活空间的限制;夏天的虫子,不可能跟它们谈论冰冻,是因为受到生活时间的限制;乡曲之土,不可能跟他们谈论大道,是因为教养的束缚。如今你从河岸边出来,看到了大海,方才知道自己的鄙陋,你将可以参与谈论大道了。天下的水面,没有什么比海更大的,千万条河川流归大海,不知道什么时候才会停歇而大海却从不会满溢;海底的尾闾泄漏海水,不知道什么时候才会停止而海水却从不曾减少;无论春天还是秋天不见有变化,无论水涝还是干旱不会有知觉。这说明大海远远超过了江河的水流,不能够用数量来计算。可是我从不曾因此而自满,自认为从天地那里承受到形体并且从阴和阳那里禀承到元气,我存在于天地之间,就好像一小块石子、一小块木屑存在于大山之中。我正以为自身的存在实在渺小,又哪里会自以为满足而自负呢?想一想,四海存在于天地之间,不就像小小的石间孔隙存在于大泽之中吗?再想一想,中原大地存在于四海之内,不就像细碎和米粒存在于大粮仓里吗?号称事物的数字叫做万,人类只是万物中的一种;人们聚集于九州,粮食在这里生长,舟车在这里通行,而每个人只是众多人群中的一员;一个人他比起万物,不就像是毫毛之末存在于整个马体吗?五帝所续连的,三王所争夺的,仁人所忧患的,贤才所操劳的,全在于这毫末般的天下呢!伯夷辞让君位而博取名声,孔子以谈说天下而显示渊博,这大概就是他们的自满与自傲;不就像你先前在河水暴涨时的洋洋自得吗?”

The god of the sea said, "The frogs in the well cannot talk about the ocean because they are confined by their living space; the insects in summer cannot talk about frost because they are confined by the time of their existence; the locals cannot talk about the great way because they are bound by their education. Now that you have emerged from the riverbank and seen the ocean, you have come to realize your own ignorance, and you can now participate in discussing the great way. There is nothing on the surface of the world that is greater than the sea. Ten thousand rivers flow into the sea, and it is unknown when they will stop, yet the sea never overflows; the sea's outlets leak seawater, and it is unknown when they will stop, yet the sea never diminishes; there is no change in spring or autumn, and no sensation of flood or drought. This shows that the sea far surpasses the flow of rivers and cannot be measured by quantity. Yet I have never been complacent about this, for I believe that I have received my form from the heavens and earth, and my vital energy from yin and yang. I exist between the heavens and earth, like a small stone or a piece of wood in a great mountain. I even consider my existence to be extremely insignificant, so how could I ever feel satisfied or proud? Think about it, the four seas exist between the heavens and earth, aren't they like tiny gaps between large stones in a vast marsh? And again, the Central Plains exist within the four seas, aren't they like grains and rice in a large granary? The number of things in the world is called 'ten thousand,' and humans are just one species among them; people gather in the nine provinces, where food grows and boats and carts pass through, yet each person is just a member of a large crowd; compared to the world, isn't a person like the tip of a hair in the whole body of a horse? The things that the Five Emperors connected, the Three Kings fought over, the benevolent worried about, and the talented labored for, are all about this tiny world! Bo Yi declined the throne to gain fame, Confucius displayed his vast knowledge by discussing the world, and this perhaps is their pride and arrogance; isn't it like your own complacency when the river was in flood?"
12. 韩信和张良相比,张良更懂得屈伸的尺度,在辅助刘邦完成了推翻暴秦的统治,实现了国家的统一大志后,面对高官重爵,荣华富贵不为所动,他知道自己作为人臣,已经达到了顶峰,盛极则衰,因而悄然引退,最后得以善终。韩信则不然,功成后他被封楚地,但很明显,刘邦对他心存疑惧,韩信对此也心知肚明。为了赢得刘邦的信任,当好友钟离昧投奔他的时候,韩信没有理会钟离昧“我今日死,明日恐怕就轮到你了”的劝告,拿了钟离昧的人头去见刘邦,为的就是消除刘邦的怀疑,但最终也没有逃脱被诛灭九族的命运。
12. Compared to Han Xin, Zhang Liang was more skilled at understanding the measure of yielding and advancing. After assisting Liu Bang in overthrowing the tyrannical Qin dynasty and realizing the great ambition of national unity, Zhang Liang remained unmoved by high official positions and wealth. He knew that as a subject, he had reached the peak, and that when things are at their height, they tend to decline, so he quietly retired, and ultimately had a good ending. Han Xin, on the other hand, was not the same. After achieving his success, he was granted the land of Chu, but it was clear that Liu Bang was suspicious of him, and Han Xin was well aware of this. In order to win Liu Bang's trust, when his friend Zhong Lianmei defected to him, Han Xin did not heed Zhong Lianmei's warning, "If I die today, it might be your turn tomorrow." Instead, he took Zhong Lianmei's head to see Liu Bang, in order to eliminate Liu Bang's doubts, but in the end, he could not escape the fate of being exterminated along with his nine clans.
13. 俗语说:“留得青山在,不怕没柴烧。”在危险面前,暂时妥协,保全自己,是为了养精蓄锐,以期在恰当的时机奋起一击。
13. As the saying goes, "If there's a mountain left, there's no need to worry about firewood." In the face of danger, it is advisable to compromise temporarily and preserve oneself in order to conserve energy and be ready for a decisive blow at the right moment.
14. 老子说:“知其白,守其黑。知其雄,守其雌。”面对人生曲折和事业艰难,我们要懂得变通的智慧。以退为进,以舍谋得,以屈求伸。
14. Laozi said, "Know the white, guard the black. Know the strong, guard the weak." In the face of the twists and turns of life and the difficulties of our careers, we must understand the wisdom of adaptability. To advance by retreating, to gain by letting go, and to seek extension through bending.
15. 大海如此谦虚,我们更不可骄傲。现代科学所认识的东西和茫茫的宇宙相比,也只是沧海一粟而已,我们对宇宙的认识只能称为管窥蠡测。现在自然科学所研究的宇宙范围从层次上可分为渺观,微观,宏观,宇观和胀观几个层次,它们之间分别以夸克、布朗运动的颗粒、行星和总星系为界,分别属于粒子物理学、量子力学、经典科学、广义相对论和宇宙学研究的范围,当然,渺观之下还有无数更微小的层次,胀观之上还有无数更高的层次存在。也许大家对介观(介于微观和宏观之间的层次)比较熟悉,因为这个层次正是目前最前沿的纳米技术所在的领域,所谓纳米技术,从技术层面看,就是操纵单个分子或原子的技术。一纳米有多大呢?我们知道,我们在中学学的参与化学反应的最基本的微粒——分子是很小的,分子就是纳米级的粒子。经过简单的计算,就知道,分子:乒乓球=乒乓球:地球。而原子的大小只有10-10m,是分子的十分之一,基本粒子更小,只有<10-15m,至于夸克、轻子则只有<10-18m了。但还有比这更小的,超微观层次是指小于普朗克尺度的范围。所谓普朗克尺度,就是在普朗克空间:10-35m,和普朗克时间:10-43s之下的范围。目前自然科学的视野从空间上看,最大范围与最小范围相差达到1061 倍,从时间上看,最长与最短相差达到1060倍。两个数目初看起来是很大的。说到大数目,我们可能有些情况下对下面几种情况下的数目感到无法计算,比如一场大雪中落下的雪花数,一场暴雨中下来的雨点数,全世界森林中的树木上所有的叶子数,海洋中的水滴数等等,这些数目太巨大了,谁能计算得出来?只好用“不计其数”来形容了。但是所有这些数目都远远比不上总星系中的原子数,而后者只不过1081-85而已。
15. The sea is so humble, and we should not be proud either. Compared to the vast universe, what modern science has recognized is just a drop in the ocean. Our understanding of the universe can only be called a mere glimpse. Currently, the scope of research in natural sciences can be divided into several levels: miniscule, microscopic, macroscopic, cosmic, and inflationary. These levels are demarcated by quarks, particles in Brownian motion, planets, and the entire universe, respectively, and they belong to the fields of particle physics, quantum mechanics, classical science, general relativity, and cosmology. Of course, there are countless even smaller levels below the miniscule, and countless higher levels above the inflationary. Perhaps many of you are familiar with the mesoscopic level, which lies between the microscopic and macroscopic. This is the domain of the cutting-edge nanotechnology, which, from a technical perspective, is the technology of manipulating individual molecules or atoms. How small is a nanometer? We know that in middle school, the most basic particle involved in chemical reactions, the molecule, is very small. Molecules are nanoparticles of the nanometer scale. With simple calculations, we find that the ratio of molecules to ping-pong balls is the same as the ratio of ping-pong balls to the Earth. The size of an atom is only 10^-10 meters, which is one-tenth the size of a molecule, while the basic particles are even smaller, only less than 10^-15 meters. Quarks and leptons are even smaller, less than 10^-18 meters. However, there is still something smaller: the ultra-microscopic level, which refers to the range smaller than the Planck scale. The Planck scale is the range below the Planck length: 10^-35 meters, and the Planck time: 10^-43 seconds. Currently, the scope of natural sciences, in terms of space, spans a range that is 10^61 times larger from the largest to the smallest, and in terms of time, the longest and shortest durations differ by 10^60 times. These numbers may seem vast at first glance. When it comes to large numbers, there are situations where we find it impossible to calculate, such as the number of snowflakes falling in a heavy snowstorm, the number of raindrops falling in a heavy rainstorm, the number of leaves on all the trees in the world's forests, and the number of water droplets in the ocean, etc. These numbers are too vast to calculate, and we can only describe them as "countless." However, all these numbers are far surpassed by the number of atoms in the entire universe, which is only 10^81-85.

17. 河伯听了这番道理,深觉言之有理,乃把自己的体会给海神说出来,以求得到海神的首肯“然则我大天地而小毫末,可乎?”北海若说,你看,我刚表扬了你,怎么你又迷糊了呢?“否”,你这样说那就不对喽。大理我给你讲了,但尚未与你语至理啊。“何以知毫末足以定至细之倪?何以知天地足以穷至大之域?”你以为原子就是小之极至吗?你认为总星系就是最大的了?唉,刚才我真和你白说了,你刚从一个陷阱里跳出来又进入了另一个陷阱,什么时候是个头呢?须知天外有天,总星系之外还有总星系,原子之下还有原子,从更高的层次来看,总星系就好象是原子那么渺小,而从极微小的层次看,原子就好象是总星系那么浩瀚。你得连天地的境界都超越过去,达到道的境界才行。什么是道?道非大非小,非善非恶,非常非变,非正非奇,非外非内,超越一切,含摄一切,贯通一切,乃全,乃备,乃妙。领悟了如此妙道,方始明白:宇宙间一切事物皆本来完备具足大道一切真体妙用。伟大的天地固然美妙,难道世间的一草一木不是同样美妙的吗?“天地与我并生,万物与我为一”,“万物皆备于我”,世界上一切的一切,都是实理具备,随在各足。犹如王阳明所说的:孔子、尧、舜,圣人、凡人,犹如金子,虽然分量不一样,但如果都经过提纯,成为足金、赤金,其纯度是完全一样的,没有任何区别,所谓个个圆成是也。整个宇宙中的一切,从极大的天地到极小的原子,都互相含摄,互相具有,一花一世界,一叶一如来,互相之间缘起无尽,圆融无碍,宇宙中一切的一切都是美妙之极的,故禅宗先师才说“翠竹黄花,无非妙道;担柴挑水,皆是菩提”,我佛如来亦言“烦恼即菩提”。禅宗至高无上的法门是不断烦恼,不求解脱,因为烦恼即菩提,本来无缚,今亦无脱。出家出家,何谓出家?出家的真义就是“没有烦恼”,随缘任运,无处不是极乐。
17. After listening to this reasoning, the River God felt that it made perfect sense, and he expressed his own insights to the Sea God in the hope of gaining his approval. "Then, is it permissible for me to consider the great universe as vast and the tiniest particle as small?" The Master of the North Sea replied, "Look, I just praised you, and now you're confused again? No, if you say that, then you're wrong. I have explained the great principles to you, but I haven't yet spoken to you about the ultimate truth. 'How do you know that the tiniest particle is sufficient to define the extremity of the very fine? How do you know that the universe is sufficient to exhaust the boundless expanse of the very great?' Do you think that atoms are the ultimate limit of the small? Do you believe that the Milky Way is the largest there is? Alas, I just wasted my words with you; you've just jumped out of one trap and fallen into another. When will this end? Remember, there is a heaven beyond heaven, and beyond the Milky Way is another Milky Way. Below the atom are still atoms. From a higher perspective, the Milky Way seems as tiny as an atom, and from an extremely tiny perspective, an atom seems as vast as the Milky Way. You must transcend the realm of heaven and earth and reach the realm of the Tao. What is the Tao? The Tao is neither great nor small, neither good nor evil, neither constant nor changeable, neither normal nor strange, neither external nor internal. It transcends all and encompasses all, connects all, and is complete, comprehensive, and wondrous. Only by understanding this wondrous Tao can one understand that all things in the universe are inherently complete and possess the true essence and wondrous functions of the great Tao. The grand universe and the vast earth are indeed wonderful, but aren't the tiniest blade of grass and the smallest leaf also wondrous? 'Heaven and earth are born together with me, and all things are one with me,' 'All things are prepared within me.' Everything in the world, everything, is equipped with the real truth and is sufficient in itself. As Wang Yangming said: Confucius, Yao, and Shun, sages and ordinary people, are like gold. Although their quantities are different, if they are all refined, becoming pure gold and red gold, their purity is completely the same, with no distinction, which is the essence of being fully formed. In the entire universe, everything from the greatest heavens and earth to the tiniest atom, are mutually contained and possessed. A flower is a world, a leaf is a Buddha, and there is an endless origin and seamless integration between them. Everything in the universe is wondrous to the extreme, which is why the great masters of the Chan school said, 'Green bamboo and yellow flowers, none but the wondrous Tao; carrying wood and water, all are the path to enlightenment.' My Buddha also said, 'Distress is enlightenment.' The highest method of the Chan school is to continuously eliminate烦恼, not seeking liberation, because distress is enlightenment; there was no bondage originally, and there is no liberation now. 'To become a monk,' what does it mean to become a monk? The true meaning of becoming a monk is 'to have no distress,' to follow one's fate and circumstances, and to find bliss everywhere.
18. 秋天里山洪按照时令汹涌而至,众多大川的水流汇入黄河,河面宽阔波涛汹涌,两岸和水中沙洲之间连牛马都不能分辨。于是河神欣然自喜,认为天下一切美好的东西全都聚集在自己这里。河神顺着水流向东而去,来到北海边,面朝东边一望,看不见大海的尽头。于是河神方才改变先前洋洋自得的面孔,面对着海神仰首慨叹道:“俗语有这样的说法,‘听到了上百条道理,便认为天下再没有谁能比得上自己’的,说的就是我这样的人了。而且我还曾听说过孔丘懂得的东西太少、伯夷的高义不值得看重的话语,开始我不敢相信;如今我亲眼看到了你是这样的浩淼博大、无边无际,我要不是因为来到你的门前,真可就危险了,我必定会永远受到修养极高的人的耻笑。”
18. In autumn, the mountain torrents surged according to the season, and the waters of numerous great rivers converged into the Yellow River. The river surface was vast and the waves were raging, making it impossible to distinguish the banks from the sandbars in the water. Then the river god was overjoyed, thinking that all the beautiful things in the world were gathered here. The river god followed the current eastward and arrived at the edge of the North Sea, looking eastward and not being able to see the end of the sea. Only then did the river god change the smug expression on his face and looked up and sighed towards the sea god, "There is an old saying that 'he who has heard a hundred doctrines thinks that no one else in the world can match him.' That's exactly me. Moreover, I have heard that Confucius knew too little, and that Bo Yi's noble virtues were not worth respecting. At first, I did not believe it; but now that I have seen you in all your vastness and boundlessness, if it were not for coming to your doorstep, I would have been in danger. I would have been mocked forever by people of extremely high cultivation."
19. 以舍谋得,是一种必需的付出,是收获的代价。

20. 让我们积累人生的智慧,永葆奋进的精神,越过荆棘坎坷,渡过急流险滩,抵达成功的彼岸。
20. Let us accumulate the wisdom of life, maintain the spirit of perseverance, surmount thorns and rugged paths, navigate through swift currents and dangerous rapids, and reach the shore of success.
21. 在当时,如果张良自视为英雄,不肯接受老人侮辱性的挑衅,后来也就不会成就一番事业了。
21. At that time, if Zhang Liang had considered himself a hero and refused to accept the old man's insulting provocation, he would not have achieved anything later.
22. 但是令人遗憾的是,现实中很难找到几人能像勾践、张良这样真正做到“能屈能伸”。有些人,一遇挫折,就会心灰意冷,一蹶不振,好一点的还能支撑着勉强生活,糟糕的甚至有因为高考失利而结束自己生命的傻瓜。如果一遇不顺心的事就没了斗志,谈何成功相反,厚黑高手只要有一口气在,就不会失去信心。当他们跌至生活和事业的最低谷时,尽管有一时的痛苦和艰难的困境,但不会消极厌世,不会自暴自弃,而是认真反思以往的经验教训,冷静观察,立足现实,积极寻找重新崛起的机会和途径。而这种人,一旦到了顶峰,也不会飘飘然;一旦跌倒了,也绝不气馁。
22. However, it is regrettable that in reality, it is hard to find a few people who can truly be as flexible as Gou Jian and Zhang Liang. Some people, upon encountering setbacks, would lose heart and morale, and could only barely manage to carry on with life at best. There are even those foolish ones who would end their own lives due to failures in the college entrance examination. If one loses their fighting spirit at the first sign of something disagreeable, how can one expect to achieve success? On the contrary, those who are experts in the art of being thick-skinned and cunning will never lose their confidence as long as they have a breath left in them. When they fall to the lowest points in life and career, although they may experience temporary pain and difficult circumstances, they will not become pessimistic and despondent, nor will they give up on themselves. Instead, they will seriously reflect on past experiences and lessons, observe calmly, stand firm in the present, and actively seek opportunities and ways to rise again. And once they reach the peak, they will not become complacent; and once they fall, they will never be discouraged.
23. 可见,<秋水篇>沿着河→海→天地最后一直到达道的境界的思路将我们引入一个越来越广阔、越来越美妙的境界之中,读此妙文,悟此妙道,千载之下,吾心通于庄子之心,乃至通于无量众生之心,通于宇宙万事万物,可得大自在矣。

It is evident that the text of "The Chapter on Autumn Water" leads us along the path of river → sea → heaven and earth, finally reaching the realm of the Tao, thus drawing us into an ever-widening and ever-more wonderful realm. By reading this wonderful passage and understanding this profound way, a thousand years later, my heart resonates with that of Zhuangzi, and even with the hearts of countless sentient beings, connecting with all things in the universe, thus attaining great freedom and ease.

25. 就像俞敏洪讲得一个例子。他在北大读书的时候,从老家带去了一袋苹果。他把苹果分给大伙吃,自己所剩无几。然而,大伙也开始分享东西给他。今天张三给他一把糖果,明天李四给他一个梨,后天王五给他一瓶饮料。
25. As an example that Yu Minhong once mentioned. When he was studying at Peking University, he brought a bag of apples from his hometown. He shared the apples with everyone and ended up with very few for himself. However, people also began to share things with him. Today, Zhang San gave him some candy, tomorrow Li Si gave him a pear, and the day after that, Wang Wu gave him a bottle of drink.
26. 一个人的心若是死了,再怎样神奇的学说也解救不了他。所以,厚黑学教导大家随时保持活力,在没有遇到打击之前,将自己的心态调整好,时刻准备承受失败。只要这样,任何委屈在厚黑高手面前,都不值一提,也不会构成任何威胁。
26. If a person's heart has died, no matter how magical the doctrine, it cannot save him. 40. 至于说到咱们中国传统文化,大家应该都知道“沧海桑田”的典故,说的是仙女麻姑自成仙以来,已经三次看到沧海变成桑田了。佛经中云仙人寿命可达千万岁,然也。不过麻姑如果碰到下面这几位神仙,那简直就年龄太小了。据《东坡志林》记载“尝有三老人遇,问其年。一曰:沧海变桑田时,我下一筹。尔来我筹已满十间屋。一曰:吾与盘古有旧”。这两位神仙的年龄真是久远久远矣。“筹”,简单说就是小木棍,沧海桑田一变迁以一个小木棍来记录,这种小木棍那位老神仙已经堆满十间屋了,你说他老人家有多大吧。另一位也不简单,盘古何人也?开天辟地者也,“吾与盘古有旧”,那还不与天地同寿?从空间的大小来看,刚才说到“大千世界”,也是来源于佛经,其意思是这样的:四大部洲构成一个小世界,一千个小世界为一个小千世界,一千个小千世界为一个中千世界,一千个中千世界为一个大千世界。一个大千世界中含有10亿个小世界。我们地球人居住在其中一个部洲里面,而宇宙中有无量大千世界。其实根据现代科学的计算,地球在太阳系中就好像一个沙粒在操场之中一样,太阳系在银河系中又好像沙粒在操场,银河系在总星系亦然,而总星系在宇宙中连沙子也不是,而是无穷小。所以,海神说自己在天地之中很是渺小,并不是谦虚,而是实事求是的说法啊。

According to "Su Dongpo's Forest of Thoughts," it was recorded that "there were three elderly men who met once, and they were asked about their age. One said: 'When the sea turned into fields of mulberry trees, I cast one tally. Since then, my tally has filled ten rooms.' One said: 'I have an old friendship with Pan Gu.'" The ages of these two immortals are truly ancient. "Tally" can be simply explained as a small wooden stick, and the sea and the fields of mulberry trees' changes were recorded with one small stick. That old immortal has already filled ten rooms with these small sticks, so you can imagine how old he is. The other one is also not ordinary. Who is Pan Gu? He is the one who created the sky and the earth. "I have an old friendship with Pan Gu," so wouldn't that be as long as the life of the heavens and the earth? From the perspective of the size of space, as mentioned earlier, the "great universe" also comes from the Buddhist scriptures, and its meaning is as follows: the four great continents make up a small world, one thousand small worlds make up a small thousand world, one thousand small thousand worlds make up a middle thousand world, and one thousand middle thousand worlds make up a great thousand world. A great thousand world contains one billion small worlds. Humans on Earth live in one of the continents, and there are countless great thousand worlds in the universe. In fact, according to modern scientific calculations, Earth is like a grain of sand on a playground in the solar system, and the solar system is like a grain of sand on a playground in the Milky Way, and the Milky Way is like a grain of sand in the universe. The universe itself is not even sand but infinitely small. Therefore, when the god of the sea said that he was very small in the heavens and the earth, it was not modesty but a factual statement.

44. 文章一开篇,直契入题,引众人开始进入文章自身的世界之中,“秋水时至,百川灌河”,时值秋季,雨水连绵,乃逐渐成势,由文本身而看,“川”当为支流,而“河”就是干流了,河水由支流而渐渐汇集到干流之中,互相增益,于是乎终于达到了“径流之大,两岸之间,不辨牛马”的浩大场景,这就难怪“河伯欣然自喜,以天下之美为尽在于己”了。应该说河伯的心态也是人之常情,试想,如果我们忽然间也拥有了一大笔财富,谁又不会象河伯一样沾沾自喜呢?什么叫“自满“?这就叫自满,自以为满,可怜(也可以说幸运)河伯不知道后面将有一个多么广阔的世界展现在他面前!

It is no wonder that the River God was overjoyed, thinking that all the beauty of the world was within himself. It should be said that the mindset of the River God is also a common human emotion. Just think, if we suddenly possessed a large sum of wealth, who wouldn't be self-satisfied like the River God? What is "pride"? This is pride, thinking of oneself as being full. Poor (or lucky) River God, he didn't know that a vast world would be unfolded before him!
