The Zen poem suggests the way of being human, that when the mind is free from distractions, to bend down and work diligently, what seems humble is actually when bowing down one can see the sky reflected in the water. The vastness of the sky is seen precisely when one looks inward with a humble attitude! "The pure mind is the path," it is only when our body and mind are no longer troubled by external desires that the path of cultivation begins. "Retreating is actually advancing" – the farmer transplanting rice moves backward as they plant, and it is precisely this backward movement that allows them to transplant the entire field. Retreating is actually a step forward. The way of being human is sometimes like this rice transplanting – it seems like a step backward, but in fact, it has made progress. Take a step back, and the sky becomes vast!
