Learn to accept the true nature of this world, to love it, and to be joyful in belonging to it.

All these images were changing and updating without pause, and they all reverted back to Siddhartha. He saw the image of a fish, a fish whose eyes had dimmed with death, opening its mouth in great pain; he saw the face of a newborn baby, with a reddish complexion and full of wrinkles, opening its mouth as if to cry.

Seeking means having a target. But discovery means freedom, openness, and being aimless. Esteemed one, you may indeed be a seeker. But you have missed some things in your vicinity by trying so hard to pursue your goal."

Learn to love this world, no longer comparing it to some desired or imagined world, to some fictional perfect illusion; learn to accept the world as it is, love it, and take joy in belonging to it.

23. The world is not imperfect, nor is it slowly developing along a long path to perfection. No, the world is perfect at every moment: all sins have already received divine grace, all children are potential elders, all infants have already been marked with death, and all the dying will receive eternal life. One cannot recognize the extent to which another has reached. Buddha exists in robbers and gamblers, and robbers also exist in Brahmins. All existence is the highest good—whether death or life, whether sin or piety, whether wisdom or folly, all is inevitable, all requires only my willing assent, all requires only my understanding and love; therefore, all things are complete to me, and nothing in the world can harm me. I know through my soul and body that my fall is necessary, that I must experience desire, that I must chase wealth, experience nausea, sink into the abyss of despair, and thereby learn to resist them; learn to love this world, no longer comparing it to some desired world, some imaginary perfect illusion; learn to accept this world as it is, love it, and be joyful in belonging to it.
24. 而世界自身则遍于我之内外,从不沦于片面。从未有一人或一事纯属轮回或者纯属涅槃,从未有一人完全是圣贤或是罪人。世界之所以表面如此是因为我们有一种幻觉,即认为时间是某种真实之物。时间并无实体,侨文达,我曾反复悟到这一点。而如果时间并非真实,那么现世与永恒,痛苦与极乐,善与恶之间的所谓分界线也只是一种幻象。
24. Yet the world itself is all-encompassing, within and without me, never confined to one-sidedness. There has never been a person or a thing that is purely cyclic or purely nirvanic, nor has there been anyone who is entirely virtuous or entirely sinful. The apparent division in the world is due to a delusion that we perceive time as something real. Time has no substance, and I have repeatedly realized this, Qiaowenda. If time is not real, then the so-called boundaries between the present and eternity, between suffering and bliss, between good and evil, are merely an illusion.
25. 对于一个真正的求道者,如果他诚心期望得到觉悟,他就不能接受任何教义。然而一个得道者却可以认可任何道路和任何目标,没有任何东西能使他与千千万万住于永恒、通于神明的圣贤们分离开来。
25. For a true seeker of the path, if he sincerely expects to attain enlightenment, he cannot accept any doctrine. However, a realized being can acknowledge any path and any goal, nothing can separate him from the countless sages who dwell in eternity and are in communion with the divine.
26. 我理解你,但那恰恰是世尊所说的虚妄之相。他宣讲宽容、克己、慈悲、忍让却没有爱。他禁止我们缠缚于尘俗之爱。
26. I understand you, but that is exactly the illusion that the Honored Buddha spoke of. He preached tolerance, self-restraint, compassion, and forbearance, but without love. He prohibited us from being entangled in worldly love.
27. 他喜欢那种焦虑的感受,那种一场赌局中大笔赌金去向悬而未定时所感到的沉重而可怕的焦虑。他喜欢那种感觉并不断寻求其重复、强化和刺激,因为只有在这种感觉中,他才会在自己那种厌腻无味、无聊透顶的生存状态下体验到某种快乐、某种刺激以及某种生存的活力。
27. He enjoys the feeling of anxiety, the heavy and terrifying anxiety felt when the fate of a large sum of money in a betting game hangs in the balance. He likes this feeling and constantly seeks its repetition, reinforcement, and stimulation, because only in this feeling does he experience some joy, some excitement, and some vitality of existence in his own tedious and utterly boring state of existence.

33. A cognition gradually grew and matured in Siddhartha's mind. What is wisdom? What is his goal? It is simply the ability to think harmoniously and integrally at every moment of life, to feel and merge with this unified soul, a capability, a secret art. This cognition thrived in Siddhartha's mind and was reflected on Vasudeva's aged but youthful face: harmony, joy, unity, the knowledge of the ever-integrated world.

37. Knowledge can be imparted, but wisdom cannot. People can seek wisdom, manifest wisdom in their lives, strengthen themselves with wisdom, and create miracles with wisdom, but they cannot impart wisdom. I had this doubt when I was young, and it was my suspicion that drove me away from teachers. I also had another thought, which you might consider a joke or just a foolish notion, that is, the opposite of every truth is also true. For example, only a one-sided truth can be expressed in words; in fact, everything expressed in language or thought can only be one-sided, just half the truth, and they all lack completeness.
38. 我领悟到这个道理后,认出我的生活也是一条河。这条河用幻象,而非现实,隔开少年悉达多、成年悉达多和老年悉达多。悉达多的前世并非过去,死亡和重归梵天亦并非未来。没有过去,没有未来。一切都是本质和当下。

This river divides the young Siddhartha, the adult Siddhartha, and the old Siddhartha not with illusions, but with reality. Siddhartha's past lives are not in the past, nor is death and the return to Brahman in the future. There is no past, no future. Everything is essence and the present.

Jowenda bowed farewell and said, "Thank you for sharing your thoughts, some of which are so peculiar that I can't grasp them immediately. Go with the flow, and wish you peace! We are old now, and it may be difficult for us to meet again. Darling, I believe you have found tranquility. But for me, I have yet to reap."

40. The world is not imperfect. The world does not slowly progress towards perfection; no, every moment in the world is perfect. All sins carry forgiveness, every child harbors an elder, every newborn harbors the deceased, and every dying person孕育 eternal life. No one can see another's path. The path of robbers and gamblers might lead to the Buddha, and the path of Brahmins might lead to robbers. In the deepest meditation, such possibilities exist: time is terminated, and people view past, present, and future lives as simultaneous. At this time, everything is good, perfect, and divine. Therefore, in my view, everything in the world is good. In my view, death is like life, sin is like the sacred, and wisdom is like foolishness. Everything has its destiny, and everything only needs my approval, submission, and silent consent of love. This is beneficial to me, it only promotes me, and never harms me. I let my soul and body arrange, to experience sin, to pursue fleshly desires and wealth, to yearn for vanity, to sink into the most shameful despair, to learn to give up struggle, to learn to love the world. I no longer compare this world with the perfect world I long for, nor the world I have shaped, but accept this world, love it, and belong to it.
41. 过去之心不可得,未来之心不可得。所有的悲伤,所有的自我折磨和恐惧不都是存在于时间之中吗?一旦征服并除灭了时间,不就可以征服世上所有的苦难与邪恶吗?
41. The heart of the past cannot be obtained, nor can the heart of the future. Are not all sorrows, all self-torture and fear contained within time? Once time is conquered and eliminated, is it not possible to conquer all suffering and evil in the world?

42. "My life has indeed been strange," he thought, having taken strange detours. In my youth, I only knew about reverence for the gods and sacrifices. In my youth, I only knew about penance, contemplation, and stealth, exploring the Brahmins and worshipping the eternal within the Atman. As a youth, I imitated those penitents, living in the forest, enduring both extreme heat and cold, learning to starve, and numbing my body. Then, the teachings of that living Buddha wonderfully illuminated me, and I felt that the understanding of the unity of the world flowed within me like my own blood. But later, I had to leave the living Buddha and his great wisdom."

43. Wisdom cannot be expressed. The wisdom expressed by a wise person often sounds like foolishness.

Indeed, there is nothing in the world that can occupy my entire thoughts as much as the self. This is an enigmatic mystery: I exist, and I am the only independent individual different from anyone else."

45. The opposite of truth is also true. Only a partial truth can be expressed in words; in fact, everything expressed in language or thought can only be partial... When the Buddha Shakyamuni preached the dharma about the world, he had to divide it into samsara and nirvana, illusion and reality, suffering and redemption... And the world itself permeates within and without me, never falling into partiality. No one or thing is purely samsara or purely nirvana, no one is completely a sage or a sinner. The reason why the world appears to be so is because we have a delusion, that time is something real. Time has no substance.
46. 一切未受尽的苦,未获得的救赎都会重来。苦难从未改变。
46. All the unrelieved suffering, the unattained redemption will be repeated. Suffering has never changed.

48. 像一层纱幕,像一层薄雾,一种心灵的厌倦在悉达多身上沉积下来--一天又一天地更加浓厚,一月又一月地更加灰暗,一年又一年地更加沉重。正如一件新衣服随着时间的推移变得破旧,失去了往日鲜艳的颜色,变得肮脏起皱,缝边已经绽开,而到处都出现了磨损而易破的地方。

But I do not love words; they have no value to me. They have no strength, no tenderness, no color, no sharpness, no scent, no taste. As words, they possess nothing. Perhaps it is the words that hinder you from finding peace. Because salvation and virtue, the cycle of rebirth and nirvana are all just words. There is no nirvana in the world; nirvana is just a word.

75. So the two old men listened in silence. The river's song, with its many voices, softly echoed. Siddhartha gazed at the river, and many images appeared on the flowing surface. He saw his father in solitude, mourning the loss of his beloved son; he also saw himself, alone, unable to free himself from his longing for his child far away; and he saw his own son, also alone, hurrying along the burning path of desire. Each one was fixated on their own goal, each one was troubled by their own goal, and each one was enduring suffering. The sound of the river was sad, carrying sorrow and longing, as it flowed towards its destination.
