In social interactions, how to elegantly retaliate against others' belittlement and enhance our sense of self-worth is a skill that each of us should master. Let's start from the heart, learn to use wisdom and composure to resolve misunderstandings, and show confidence and charm.
1. We hate it when people are snobbish.
2. However, in this society, many people look down on others. If you have strength, value, and abilities, others will look up to you. If you lead a normal life, they will look down on you with a dog's eyes.
3. We must have a sufficiently good attitude to face all this, otherwise we will be纠缠在别人的世界里一生,痛苦不堪。
4. When others look down upon you, the best way to counterattack is actually not to counterattack. Be indifferent, not caring, not taking it to heart, and treating those who look down upon you as nothing.
5. Remember once when I went out for a walk with the little leader of our unit, we met another little leader from another department. He was actually younger than me, but he focused all his attention on our unit's little leader, offering him a cigarette, lighting it for him, and completely ignoring me standing beside him.
6. I was extremely angry at the time and thought to myself: What a dog official, such a scoundrel, so much of a look-down-on-people!
7. Subsequently, every time I think of this matter, I hate it with all my might.
8. Now that I think about it, there really wasn't any need for that. In this world, there are countless people who look down on others with a dog's eyes, flatter those above and bully those below, and those who think too highly of themselves. Who can keep count of all that?
9. It's like when you encounter a pile of shit; it disgusts you, right? So why would you hold a grudge against the shit?
10. So, it is important to adjust your mindset properly and not lower yourself to the level of trash people.
11. During the Spring and Autumn period, Laozi was the Keeper of the Records and the Keeper of the Royal Library of the Zhou Dynasty, and he was renowned for his fame and his distinguished character and virtues.
12. A man named Shi Chengqi came to visit in the name of fame. When he arrived at Laozi's residence, he saw the place was in disarray, and Laozi was dressed in disorder, with a wild hair and a soiled face. Shi Chengqi was very disappointed and said:
13. I thought you were a saint, so I came to you for guidance from afar, but upon seeing you in this state, I am extremely disappointed. Are you worthy of being called a saint? Even an ordinary person would feel ashamed of you!
14. Laozi closed his eyes and remained silent, unmoved by what had happened.
15. On the second day, Shi Chengqi felt that his words were overly harsh, so he specially went to apologize to Laozi.
16. Laozi said: "If you say I am an ox, I won't really become an ox. If you say I am a horse, I won't really become a horse. No matter how you view me, I am still me."
17. A weakness of human nature is the concern over how others perceive oneself. In fact, as long as you have a stable core in your heart and can hold yourself together, no opinion from others can change you.
18. We once so eagerly desired the ups and downs of fate, but later we realized that the most exquisite scenery in life is the calm and composure of the heart. We once so eagerly awaited recognition from others, but later we discovered that the world belongs to us, and has nothing to do with others.
19. The truly formidable individuals navigate others' worlds with ease while taking care of themselves in their own. Everyone has their own world, and we should strive for our own world, not waste time and energy in others'.
20. A person who looks down on you is definitely someone with low quality, poor character, and shallow cognition. They are not worthy of your anger, let alone worth arguing with or entangling yourself in.
21. Often compete with those who share the same interests to determine who is better, but do not argue with fools about trivial matters.
22. The other party looks down on people with a dog's eyes. Let him find his joy in the dog's values, just like maggots enjoy scratching in dung; let him scratch away.
23. When you encounter someone who looks down on you, just compassionately look at this low-level animal, smile slightly, and calmly walk away, not caring about anything.
24. Part 1 of the Catalog: Changing Your View of Yourself 1. Don't always compare yourself to others.
25. Stop worrying about what others think of you. Part 2: Taking Action 1. Share your achievements with your friends and family.
26. Physical Exercise. Part 3: Keep the Feeling Going 1. Engage in volunteer activities.
27. Maintain a strong support circle around you. Having a good self-image means appreciating oneself from the inside out. It's not easy to dissolve the unpleasantness in life and accept one's current state; it requires substantial self-adjustment: first, change your attitude, and then strive to develop a lifestyle that allows you to feel your self-worth, the care of others, and self-satisfaction. If you are troubled by this issue, you can try to refer to the following suggestions.
28. Don't always compare others to yourself. That will only lower your self-confidence and make your mood bad. You are a unique individual with your own unique growth experiences and talents. If you keep comparing yourself to others, your self-perception is bound to get worse because you will always find someone who is stronger, smarter, or prettier than you. You should strive to become the person you want to be, not imitate "the neighbor's child," the school goddess, or your excellent cousin. Once you define your version of success, you have the opportunity to achieve it. You might feel that everyone around you is doing better than you. The problem is, you may be more inclined to focus on your flaws rather than your strengths and have not noticed that you already have so much. Remember, that seemingly infinitely confident friend of yours who you envy may be envying your high intelligence or sense of humor.
29. To build self-confidence. To have a good self-image, to love the present self and the ideal self, the key lies in having self-confidence. The ice is three feet thick, and it takes more than one day to build self-confidence. However, you can gradually build up confidence in your current state and the achievements you can achieve in the future. Always remind yourself that you have enough shining points, don't care about others' opinions; if you feel you have enough value, then don't pay attention to what others say. Be more positive and lively in body language. Hold your head up, chest out, and look straight ahead, don't be listless and always keep your head down. Don't always look restless or rigidly cross your arms in front of you. Leave others with a more positive, uplifting, and approachable impression. Try to do these things, and you will become more confident.
30. Developing one or several special skills can start from one's own hobbies. If one can master a unique skill, they will feel better about themselves.
31. Spend more time with people who bring you positive energy, and stay away from those who always bring you down.
32. When faced with unfamiliar situations, think more about what good things could happen, and don't worry unnecessarily about potential problems.
33. Be proud of your strengths. There are shining points in everyone, and you are no exception. Take some time to sit down and make a list of your strengths, and don't stand up until you fill an entire sheet of paper. This is not about filling up the list with things like "I have nicely applied nail polish," but rather about truly delving deep into yourself to find those shining points that set you apart: abundant empathy, good humor, a strong body, a fervent work ethic, and so on. The longer and more sincere this list is, the more it helps to boost your self-confidence. Qualities that can be considered strengths include: being loving, studious, hardworking, friendly, physically strong, intelligent, quick-witted, approachable, humorous, and so on.
34. Keep this list safe, and take it out to motivate yourself often. You might even consider folding it and putting it in your wallet.
35. If you truly think your hair or eyes are stunningly beautiful, they can also be included on this list. Not all virtues have to be the serious things mentioned above.
36. Don't lose hope in yourself just because you occasionally encounter difficulties. Sometimes, you just need to persevere and remind yourself that the difficulties will pass soon. If you really feel uncomfortable, make sure to talk to an adult who truly cares about you. Additionally, bad moods often reflect on your physical condition. When you feel restless or depressed, pay attention to whether there is anything wrong with your body. Do you experience stomachaches when you are nervous before an exam? Do you have headaches when you are anxious? Paying attention to these signals from your body can help you understand why you feel unhappy and take targeted measures to make yourself feel better. Some people believe that in order to have a good self-image, one must stay happy at all times. This is impossible. If one day you feel down, especially after a series of happy days, don't blame yourself; remind yourself that the days of unhappiness will eventually pass.
37. Strive to cultivate a positive mindset. You might think, "Oh, it sounds easy enough to say, but it's not that simple." If there was a switch that you could turn on to maintain a positive mindset forever, you would have done it by now, wouldn't you? This kind of thinking is actually incorrect. Cultivating a positive mindset is essentially your decision, a natural ability you possess. When you realize that your mindset is overly negative, you should strive to turn it around, thus making your psychological state healthier. A positive mindset will improve your self-perception and enhance your expectations for your future and achievements. For every negative thought that flashes through your mind, challenge yourself to come up with two or three positive thoughts to counteract its influence. For example, if you think negatively, "I look so tired today," you can say, "But my hairstyle is quite nice, and I have a bright smile." On a deeper level, if you think, "I'm really clumsy in social activities," you should tell yourself, "But at least I know how to make others laugh, and people feel quite comfortable when they are with me."
38. When talking about yourself to friends, try to use more positive ways. Of course, this doesn't mean that you should keep exaggerating your achievements or things you care about. You will find that your optimistic attitude can be contagious, and at this time, your self-perception will also improve.
39. Be aware that you can offer a lot of help to others. Perhaps the reason you are disappointed in yourself is because you feel useless to others, that you are not needed by anyone. However, the reality is rarely like that. Talk to your close friends and family, and you will find out how much they appreciate and need you. Share your true feelings with your family, and they will list a long list of your virtues. Share your troubles with your friends, and they will tell you that your thoughts are truly amazing, and your companionship and help are indispensable to them. The more you remember the fact that you are a valuable person that others are lucky to know, the more you will realize that you can offer a lot of help to others. When you feel the value of yourself, your self-esteem will naturally improve.
40. Make a list of things you are grateful for. The reason you may feel disappointed in yourself is likely because you think nothing good ever happens. Feeling bad about yourself may not only be related to your self-perception but could also be related to how you feel about your surroundings. Try making this list and write down everything you are grateful for—good health, family love, even the nice weather outside—you will soon find that you have no reason to be unhappy. Your world is filled with joy, good fortune, and hope, and all you need to do is to discover them. Treat this list just like the list of strengths mentioned above. Fill a page, look at it often, and update it whenever necessary.
41. Don't be overly concerned about your appearance. It's harmless to notice the changes in your appearance and makeup, or to occasionally indulge in daydreams about your looks, but spending too much time on grooming, or glancing at any mirror whenever possible, is not worth it. You should be doing more meaningful things. To improve your self-perception, it is indeed important to maintain a healthy and tidy image, but you shouldn't make appearance the focus of your life. A person who goes to great lengths to satisfy their fantasy of being as beautiful as a celestial being will never find happiness and peace. One way to achieve this is to limit the time spent on grooming. For example, you can set a goal to spend no more than 10 to 15 minutes on hair and makeup before going out. If you exceed this limit, you are definitely engaging in futile nitpicking.
42. Don't keep worrying about what others think of you. Have you ever been hurt by someone's words? Remember: people who insult others often do so just to make themselves look stronger. This means they may lack a sense of security and self-confidence. Therefore, the tit-for-tat approach exactly falls into their trap and is not wise. The best way to make such people feel awkward is to walk your own path and let them talk. Of course, not caring about others' opinions is easier said than done. It doesn't mean completely rejecting others' concerns. Instead, you should ask yourself what your purpose is in pleasing these people and whether the ones who hurt you are worth worrying about. Usually, you will quickly find that they are just obstacles on your path to happiness, not the source of your happiness.
43. Share your achievements with your friends and family. It's when you accomplish something that makes you proud—like getting good grades on an exam, winning a football championship, etc.—that you are at your brightest. While giving yourself a pat on the back, give Grandpa a call, send Auntie a text message, share this good news, or celebrate with your family and friends. This will gradually improve your self-perception, because those around you are cheering you on. Don't worry about appearing to be bragging. Talking about these things with your loved ones is not bragging. Moreover, it's likely that if you're trying to improve your self-perception by doing this, you won't come off as bragging.
44. Take good care of your body. From today on, pamper your skin with pleasant soap or face wash, and make sure to clean and trim your nails. This doesn't mean spending hours in front of the mirror—taking a long, relaxing bath is much better for you. Spending some time paying close attention to personal hygiene can make you feel like you are worth the effort, which means you recognize that your body is worth investing some time and energy in—it's different from using a lot of makeup or buying a lot of trendy clothes. If you want to get a massage to relieve the stress in your life, don't hesitate! A massage is sure to make you feel more relaxed both physically and mentally.
45. Expand your personal style of dressing. Experiment with different outfits to explore what makes you feel the best. Sometimes you might want to dress up a bit, and sometimes you might want to dress down, and that's all fine. This week, take a friend out for some shopping and pick out five outfits that you believe you could never accept in terms of color or style, and enjoy the process of trying them on! If a piece of clothing that you thought would look terrible actually looks fantastic, don't be surprised; and if it does look terrible, just laugh it off. While changing your dressing style may not necessarily improve your self-esteem, at least it can help you discover another side of yourself.
46. You can also try changing your hairstyle. Girls can tie their hair into a braid, make curls, or tie their hair into a bun. Boys can try making their hairstyle more voluminous or cutting their hair shorter. Enjoy experimenting! You can express yourself through different appearances, and there is no one "correct" way. You are always yourself.
47. Friends who bring you a good sense of self. When friends start talking about weight loss or dieting, try to steer the conversation away from that, and guide them to discuss more interesting topics, such as how their football team is performing recently, or how old their little golden retriever is, etc. If your friend is always focused on appearance, try to redirect the conversation to less superficial topics. If your efforts always seem to fall on deaf ears, it may be time to consider friends with a deeper set of values. Think about whether your friends are always positively praising and supporting you, or always finding fault with you. If a friend is always pouring negative energy on you, it's time to get rid of such a person as soon as possible. Although this approach may sound harsh, it is the only way to improve your sense of self.
48. Learn something new. Read some good articles about the world situation, and you will feel that you have a better understanding of current affairs, which will to some extent make you feel more important. This can also help you slightly break away from the routine lifestyle of everyday life and enjoy the fun of exploration. Take a pottery class, or watch a documentary, in short, do something that ignites your desire to learn and appreciate the world. You will soon feel full of energy, which is thanks to your desire for self-improvement and the knowledge you have gained in this process. If you have learned something truly interesting, why not share it with others? This will make you feel that you have more to offer to others.
49. Exercise your body. Physical exercise can improve your physical and mental well-being. Although losing weight or improving your physique may not have a direct effect on improving your self-perception, exercising helps you believe that you are paying attention to your body and cultivating a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, the vigorous hormone secretion during exercise can make you feel happy, which is harmless to your body. Aim to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day and enjoy everything you do in the process. Even this small change in your schedule can significantly improve your self-perception. Exercising with one or two friends can make it more enjoyable, and you can also encourage each other. If your friends can give you a boost when you feel like slacking off, you may even feel better.
50. Engage in volunteer activities. Volunteer work is a great way to give back to society and can help you recognize your ability to contribute to the community. Of course, improving your self-perception should not be the sole purpose of engaging in volunteer activities. Find a volunteer activity that allows you to fully utilize your talents: teaching someone to read, or simply chatting with them. Make it a habit to do it a few times a month. Once you start doing volunteer work, you will find that many people perceive you as valuable, and you should not always be disappointed in yourself. Keep a journal to gradually improve your self-perception along the right path. You should write at least one or two times a week, recording your progress, and separately noting the parts of your actions that make you feel better or worse about yourself. The journey to improve your self-perception will not be smooth sailing, there will always be difficulties and there will always be days when you don't feel good. It's important to honestly record everything that happens and always ask yourself how you can feel better. Remember, your journey is ongoing and it is destined to take some time. Be patient, and be kind to yourself. Don't expect too much from short-term effects.
51. Take some time to reread the diaries you have written, at least once a week. This helps you recognize your own growth.
52. Encourage yourself when needed. If it's daytime, open the windows to breathe fresh air and bask in the sunlight; if it's nighttime, put on a clean pajama, curl up, and enjoy your favorite book or CD. Too much stress? Take a hot bath and imagine the water washing away your worries. You can also try a set of original movements to keep yourself calm. When you're angry or stressed out, take three long, slow deep breaths, play your favorite music, and find ways to calm your inner self, then return to focus on the things that make you anxious. Don't try to deny that you're feeling down. The sooner you solve the problem, the sooner you'll feel better.
53. Find the best way to motivate yourself, so when you feel down, you will clearly know what to do to cheer yourself up.
54. Sometimes the best way to boost your self-esteem is simply to put down what you're doing and go out with your friends for a wild night.
55. Make a list of dreams. Find a beautiful notebook and write down the places you want to visit, the experiences you want to have, the people you want to meet, the skills you want to learn, and so on. A list of dreams means a beginning: you will embark on a life filled with fun, adventure, and interesting experiences. Next to each item on the list, draw a square box, and mark it with a tick when the dream comes true. Design an exciting plan for the future and make achieving this plan a focus in your life. This will help improve your self-perception, as it will make you feel that there are many things to look forward to. Make sure that the adventures on your list are achievable, no matter how strange or peculiar they may seem. If the dreams you write down are impossible to achieve, it may actually make you feel frustrated.
56. Let the example inspire you. Reflect on how to live like your role model—whether your role model is your mother, your math teacher, or Jay Chou—and put your thoughts into practice, learning from them how to generously treat others, how to face disappointment or insult, how to elegantly spend every small moment in life, and how to enjoy the meaning of life itself. Especially when you are feeling down, close your eyes and imagine how your role model would handle the current situation. External inspiration can help you imagine how you would act in challenging environments and make you feel capable of overcoming difficulties.
57. Maintain a strong support circle around you. If you want to continuously maintain a good self-image, you can't always be alone. You should learn from others, including friends, siblings, parents, lovers (if any), and anyone else important in your life, such as colleagues or neighbors. You should seek help from others when facing crises, ensuring that there is someone willing to listen and help you when you are lost. Having various kind-hearted people around can also make you happy because of the blessings life has given you. Achieving goals is important, but social interactions are equally important! Develop a habit to ensure that you spend some time with others every week. People who go it alone are bound to often feel melancholic.
58. It is important to spend time with your loved ones, but you always have time to make new friends. Having a variety of close friends can broaden your horizons and also make you feel better about yourself.
59. Little tip: Keep your head up and chest out when walking. A good posture helps boost your confidence, making you stand out wherever you go.
