35. Life is a journey of cultivating the mind.

36. The great way is to be simple. Laozi requires those who are cultivating the path to "harmonize with their customs and blend with their dust." The mindset should be peaceful, and the cultivation should aim for the unity of heaven and man. People should follow the laws of nature. For those cultivating the path, an ordinary life is easy to attain. The Tao follows nature; human nature is like water, which is good at smoothing and flowing downward. However, people should not be haphazard in their movements; if life is low, just ensure it is balanced.

37. No matter what situation one is in, they can calmly and peacefully face things and calmly manage life.

38. The Tao is both the origin of all things and the law of their existence. Within the Tao, there are various paths of the Tao, and for humans, there is the path of humanity. This path involves holding onto unity, preventing dispersion, and being natural in one's actions. A person's words and deeds should be as smooth and flowing as water. Information and energy in matter have the characteristics of gathering and dispersing, and the process of assimilation in matter is pronounced. Those who are strong have the advantages of strength, while those who are weak have their own advantages. Strong individuals tend to gather more vitality, while weak individuals tend to dissipate more vitality. Laozi believed that it is better to be weak rather than strong. In the "Tao Te Ching," he concentrates many insights into the survival wisdom of the weak, such as "wu wei (effortless action) and wu wei (not doing anything at all)" and "the highest good is like water." Laozi emphasizes being weak rather than strong in order to seek comfort. Things that are too easy to break, crack, or decay are not very good. It is important to maintain a tranquil and usual state.

39. There is no need to argue too much; to moderate desires, live simply, and one can enjoy the tranquility of time.

40. Everything is a reflection of the inner self. When the heart is strong, your world will be full of enchanting possibilities.

41. The Buddha said: Adversity is a propitious cause. The Buddha also tells us: "All the Buddha in the ten directions and three times take suffering as a good teacher." Without suffering, it is impossible to attain enlightenment. If a person wants to become stronger, they should accept the tempering of adversity; a prosperous situation is not necessarily good, and adversity is not necessarily bad. Practicing in a favorable situation will never lead to becoming a Buddha. In the world we live in now, because of suffering, people strive, think, and strive harder, thus thinking of change, changing, and realizing. This is called achieving enlightenment through suffering.

42. According to "The Great Way" in "Yin Wenzi": "In this age, people strive to be uniquely virtuous, to excel in their endeavors, to distinguish themselves in debate, and to be braver than the rest."

45. Nan Huaijin said, "Practice in life, live in practice."

46. Therefore, those who study Buddhism should be willing to embrace every adversity in life, for this is the true path of cultivation. Cultivating in a state of ease can never lead to enlightenment. In the process of achieving self-pursuit of happiness, various adversities will arise, and we must be able to "traverse the endless journey of clouds and seas with unwavering faith and resolve like a solid rock." Many people start with full confidence on the great path of life, but as soon as they encounter adversity, they naturally turn back. Those who are slightly better stay put, while only a very few can break through the bottleneck and win battles. They are the true heroes and men of valor.

47. The I Ching says: "The young are what the many hold dear."

48. A person living in the world cannot always walk on a smooth path. From a Buddhist perspective, the Four Noble Truths taught in Theravada Buddhism—'Dukkha (suffering), Samudaya (origin), Nirodha (cessation), and Magga (path)'—the first one is 'Dukkha'. The most fundamental problem in life is suffering, which includes the sufferings of birth, old age, illness, and death, as well as the sufferings of encountering what is disliked, separation from what is loved, and the frustration of not getting what is desired. If one can see through the most fundamental problem of life being suffering, what else could be more painful? To escape suffering and find joy, it is best to follow the teachings of the Buddha. The Buddha is both Sakyamuni Buddha and yourself; if you can escape suffering and find joy, you are the Buddha.

49. In the first half of his life, he showed his talent and was highly favored with high official positions and wealth. He did not behave with an air of superiority or look down upon the common people. Instead, he served the court with humility and caution, and sincerely cared for the well-being of the people.
