8. The "Qing Sheng" often combines the meaning of metaphor in its opening phrases, as is the case with "Jiu Mu" (Curled Wood). The term "qi" (兴起) means to provoke or to raise, where one first sings about another object to provoke the words of the song (as explained in Zhu Xi's "Commentary on the Book of Songs"). From this explanation, the lines "Only the noble man, fortune and peace upon you" are the essence of the first chapter; while the lines "In the south there is a curled wood, the vines entangle and intertwine" are the metaphorical imagery that provokes the song. In the following two chapters, each only changes two characters, and the general meaning is similar to the first chapter, utilizing the repetitive chapter form commonly used in the national songs. By repeatedly singing and layering, a strong sentiment is created through the repetition and alternation. Therefore, from the perspective of the metaphor that provokes the song, this is a song that blesses the noble man, and there should be no doubt about it.

30. Happiness is the ability to love art with a peaceful and justified heart.
31. The astute reader will naturally also notice that the alliterations in these three chapters carry a deeper meaning. "比" refers to comparing one thing with another. In the poem, "彼物" refers to the gnarled tree and the bindweed, while "此物" is the gentleman and fortune. The image of the gnarled tree being wrapped around by the bindweed symbolizes the gentleman's constant companionship with fortune, which is a very vivid metaphor. Therefore, from the perspective of the comparative meanings in each chapter, this is also a song of blessings that is both vivid and moving.

43. This is a folk song to celebrate a wedding. Initially, people use reeds to wrap around gnarled trees, symbolizing the girl's marriage to her husband. Impatient children have already rushed from the village entrance, shouting: The carriage to fetch the bride has arrived! The joyful music overpowers the joyful noise. When the happy gentleman helps the bride to step down from the carriage, what greets them is a continuous and enthusiastic singing by the young men and women: 'To the south there is a crooked tree, the Broussonetia papyrifera piles upon it. Happy are the gentlemen, may the blessings be upon them.'
