27. Lushan Mountain is renowned for its "clouds and mist." This "clouds and mist" is divided into two categories, one of which is Lushan Cloud Mist Tea (formerly known as "Wenlin Tea"). The ancients said, "The benevolent delight in mountains, the wise in water." In fact, high-quality tea is generally produced in places with both mountains and water, where there is abundant moisture and a large difference in temperature between day and night. The tea trees pick their essence, resulting in tea with extraordinary connotations beyond the reach of ordinary tea. Lushan Cloud Mist Tea is named as such because the tea trees grow on the mountain slopes shrouded in clouds and mist. According to the old mountain chronicles, tea planting in Lushan began in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It is recorded that the famous monk Huiyuan lived on the mountain for over thirty years, gathered monks, taught Buddhism, and developed tea planting in the mountains. During the Tang Dynasty, Lushan tea was already well-known. The Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi once went to the peak of Lushan to dig for medicine and plant tea, and wrote a poem: "Under the tall pine trees, by the small stream, with a spotted deer fur cloth and a white cotton robe, the herb garden and tea plantation are our industry, and wild musk deer and cranes are our companions." During the Northern Song Dynasty, it was once listed as a tribute. Although the appearance of cloud mist tea was not explicitly mentioned at this time, from the poems of the Northern Song Dynasty poet Huang Tingjian, it can be inferred that cloud mist tea already existed during the Song Dynasty. The poem goes: "In my hometown in the south of the Yangtze, I pick the white, fat, and juicy tea leaves, which are even more beautiful than the falling snow." Here, the "cloud fat" refers to the white and plump tea leaves. By the Ming Dynasty, the name of Lushan Cloud Mist Tea had appeared in the "Lushan Gazetteer" of the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the top ten famous teas in China, famous for its "six excellences" such as robust and thick buds, emerald green with many downy hairs, bright tea soup, tender and even leaves, cool and lasting aroma, and mellow and sweet taste.
