55. When reading, don't become addicted. Enjoy playing when playing, and read seriously when reading. It's not a good strategy to be buried in books all day long. When you reach a certain level of reading, you need to take a break and replenish your energy. Between reading, be sure to rest. But when reading, you must be fully engaged, using both your hands and your mind. Don't let yourself read when you're extremely tired; this will also make you unable to read well. This will actually consume your physical strength and leave you physically exhausted!

56. 告别李白，刘长卿搬张小凳子接着坐在江西路口等着。谁也想不到，这一等，竟是一年多。耗光老血的等待，换来的却是维持原判的结果。算了算了，刘长卿平复心情安慰自己，结果虽然坑爹，但总算是一个定数，接着往南巴走吧。可是刚走没几步，案子又有了新进展，这回要在苏州重审。

56. Saying goodbye to Li Bai, Liu Changqing moved a small stool and sat down at the intersection of Jiangxi Road, waiting. No one could have guessed that this wait would last over a year. The exhausted waiting, however, only yielded the result of maintaining the original judgment. Well, well, Liu Changqing calmed himself down and consoled himself, thinking that although the result was not good, at least it was a settled figure, and he should continue to head south to Ba. But just a few steps into his journey, the case took a new turn, and it would now be retried in Suzhou.

57. 这九年间，这样平静安稳的日子仍然是极少的。在苏州等案子结果的期间，刘长卿还顺便赶上了淮西节度副使刘展作乱，战祸近两年，天堂江南变成人间炼狱，真是应了之前老杜那首诗：“何乡为乐土？安敢尚盘桓！”乱世之间，连立足地都是奢侈的，更遑论乐土呢？

57. Over these nine years, such peaceful and stable days have still been extremely rare. During the time when the results of cases in Suzhou were pending, Liu Changqing also coincidentally encountered Liu Zhan, the deputy military governor of Huai Xi, who was rebellious. The war has raged for nearly two years, turning the paradisiacal region of South Yangtze into a hell on earth, truly living up to the words in an old poem by Du Fu: "What land is the land of joy? How dare one linger here!" Amidst chaos, the mere place to stand is a luxury, let alone a land of joy.

58. 我与裴郎中，同被召回长安，同被贬谪。我至睦州，他至吉州（今江西吉安）。一路上，我们相依为伴，互相安慰。如今，走到分别的路口。一东一西，此生也许再也没有机会相见。深秋黄昏，江边送别的人客都散了，只能听到山头传来阵阵凄清的猿啼声。我们两人站在这空空的码头，江水无情，兀自滔滔流去，不带走一点点伤心悲凉。同是被贬谪飘零，可是你要去的地方更远更偏。此地一为别，万水千山，我的心将始终挂念着你的一叶扁舟，请善自珍重。

58. I was recalled to Chang'an with Pei Langzhong, and we were both exiled. I went to Muzhou, and he went to Jiuzhou (today's Ji'an, Jiangxi). Along the way, we relied on each other for company, comforting each other. Now, we have reached the parting crossroads. One heading east, the other west, it may be that we will never have the chance to meet again in this life. In the late autumn dusk, the guests who bid farewell by the river have dispersed, and only the sorrowful howls of monkeys from the mountains can be heard. We two stand here on this empty wharf, the river flows on without emotion, carrying away not a trace of sorrow or melancholy. We are both exiled and dispersed, but the place you are going to is even farther and more remote. This is our parting, with ten thousand rivers and mountains, my heart will always be concerned about your little boat. Please take good care of yourself.

60. This time, Liu Changqing once again惹怒了 his colleague Wu Zhongru, the Director of the鄂岳 Observation Office, who wanted to secretly retain the grain and money intended for the capital. Liu Changqing, who was in charge of the鄂岳 Transportation and Retention Office, discovered and stopped this. Fearing that Liu Changqing would expose the matter, Wu Zhongru decided to strike first, accusing and slandering Liu Changqing of embezzling two hundred thousand strings of money.

61. 随州刺史，成为刘长卿最后也是最高的官职。刘随州，从此由来。也许最终看透唐朝的大势已去，随州刺史三年后，淮西节度使李希烈割据称王，湖北一带烽烟再起，刘长卿选择离开官场，在江州（今江西九江）度过余生，得年70有余。

61. The post of刺史 of Suizhou became the last and highest official position of Liu Changqing. From then on, he was known as Liu Suizhou. Perhaps having finally seen through the waning trend of the Tang Dynasty, after serving as the刺史 of Suizhou for three years, when the military governor of Huai West, Li Xilei, declared himself king and the region was engulfed in war again, Liu Changqing chose to retire from the official world. He spent the remainder of his life in Jiangzhou (today's Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province), and he lived to be over 70 years old.

62. 这么长时间没结果，那就真的没有希望了。草草了之的冤案，在时间的打刷下，渐渐被尘封。刘长卿也在此时被重新任用，任转运使判官（京城），后又知淮西、鄂岳转运留后（地方藩镇幕府职务）。

68. 被认定贪污那么多，足以被判处死罪。就在刘长卿掐指算着自己狗带的日子时，朝廷派来审理此案的监察御史苗伾救了他，只是将刘长卿判罚去睦州（今杭州淳安）任司马。死里逃生的刘长卿写了一首诗给苗伾，《按覆后归睦州，赠苗侍御》，诗的开头便是“地远心难达，天高谤易成。羊肠留覆辙，虎口脱馀生。”

68. Being found guilty of such massive corruption, he was enough to be sentenced to death. As Liu Changqing was calculating the days he had left, the imperial court sent a censor official, Miao Pi, to investigate the case and saved him. However, Liu Changqing was merely penalized to serve as a military governor in Muzhou (now Chun'an, Hangzhou). The Liu Changqing who narrowly escaped death wrote a poem to Miao Pi, titled "After the Inquiry and Return to Muzhou, Gift to Miao the Imperial Censor." The opening lines of the poem are: "In distant land, hearts find it hard to reach; high in the sky, slanders are easily formed. The narrow path left by the goat's intestines, the tiger's mouth from which I escaped with my life."
