尊师孝亲:一两句座右铭,激励心灵成长

1. ‘孝亲尊师复’这四个字是性德,自性制本具的德行。你要是明心见性,你一定会做得圆圆满满;你做不到,是你没见性,你在迷惑颠倒。唯有性德才能开发自性,怎么样才能明心见性?一定要性修才能够见性,现代人修学见性就难了。倓虚老法师在《念佛论》里面跟我们讲,他说他一生当中没有见过明心见性的人,不但没见过,也没听说过。他说参禅得禅定的人,他见过。参禅得禅定,果报是生四禅天,这个很了不起,不能出三界。参禅要明心见性才能出得了三界,如果不能明心见性,是出不了三界。这就是他老人家讲,在我们这个时代参禅不如念佛,念佛能带业往生,往生是出了三界;不但出了三界,而且出了十法界。他是天台宗的祖师,他念佛往生的,他往生的时候坐著走的,很难得。天台宗历代的祖师念佛往生的人很多,大概是受智者大师的影响,智者大师是念佛往生的。后来他们的祖师统统都念佛,虽修止观,不舍念佛,真正得利还是念佛。可是止观的修学,可以提升他往生的品位,这是真的。我们古人常讲‘禅净双修’,天台宗确实如是,它真的是禅净双修。

Master Taixu told us in his work "On the Practice of Reciting Buddha Names" that throughout his life, he had never seen anyone who had clarified their mind and seen their nature, nor had he heard of anyone. He said that he had seen people who had achieved samadhi through Zen meditation. Those who achieve samadhi through Zen meditation are rewarded with rebirth in the four jhanas, which is quite remarkable, but it doesn't allow one to escape the three realms. Zen meditation requires one to clarify the mind and see the nature to escape the three realms. If one cannot clarify the mind and see the nature, one cannot escape the three realms. This is what the elder said: in our era, it is better to recite Buddha names than to practice Zen, as reciting Buddha names can bring about rebirth in the Pure Land, which means escaping the three realms; not only escaping the three realms, but also escaping the ten realms. He was a patriarch of the Tiantai School, and he achieved rebirth through reciting Buddha names. At the time of his rebirth, he left his body while sitting, which is very rare. There have been many patriarchs of the Tiantai School who achieved rebirth through reciting Buddha names, likely influenced by the Master Zhiyi, who also achieved rebirth through reciting Buddha names. Later, all their patriarchs recited Buddha names, even while practicing samatha and vipassana, but it was through reciting Buddha names that they truly benefited. However, the practice of samatha and vipassana can indeed elevate the quality of one's rebirth. This is true. Our ancients often spoke of 'the simultaneous practice of Zen and Pure Land,' and the Tiantai School indeed follows this principle, truly practicing both Zen and Pure Land.
