2. This poem is lively and vivid, imbued with the joy of the New Year and also carries a fresh meaning, hence it has been widely celebrated among the people and has remained memorable across generations. In Wang Anshi's poem, there are three specific images related to the Spring Festival: firecrackers,屠苏(tusu, a traditional Chinese wine), and peach blossoms, which are customs of the Chinese New Year. Firecrackers are a creation of the Chinese people who invented gunpowder, and the custom of setting off firecrackers during the New Year has continued for thousands of years, becoming a special way for the Chinese to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new.
3. Regarding firecrackers, Fan Chengda's "Firecracker Song" is the most detailed. The poem describes the process of setting off firecrackers on New Year's Eve. It can also be used to depict the noisy scene and inner prayers of modern people welcoming the New Year.

6. As the empty sky dances with the retreating dragon, spring's essence stirs and awakens. The plum blossoms lead the flowers into the early spring, the wind carries the chill away, and the warmth stabilizes. The smoke of the cypress tree rises near the New Year's Eve, the streets are bustling with people busy ensuring safety. Neighbors have long awaited this grand move, and the entire gathering of relatives and friends extend their invitations. — "Another New Year"?>
7. In Fan Chengda's poetry, firecrackers are described as bamboo sticks that, after being heated in fire, are struck against the ground to explode and emit a sound like a thunderous roar, which is the true firecracker. The making of firecrackers with paper and gunpowder seems to have been a later development.

9. We make an appointment to visit the flower market on the street, and lean against the arcade as if it were a gallery. The potted plants are lined up in a row, and the grass and woody plants compete in fragrance. The whole night, the lights are on, and the people are as numerous as threads. A wave of songs brings joy that is almost frenzied. It's precisely because this year's scenery is beautiful, with a thousand reds and purples heralding the spring light. — Lin Boqu, "Visiting the Flower Market During the Spring Festival"

17. I frequently listen to the sound of the sandgong, and then relight the red candle, filling the room with light. The years roll by like flowing water, causing me to feel melancholic and startled. As we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new spring, how many moments of time can we still use, with the new year arriving gracefully? With old age and declining health, how can one get used to staying up all night drinking? Wanting to stay up all night, yet afraid of the cold seeping through my clothes. I gently put down the wine cup, thanking the blossoming plum blossoms for accompanying me in my solitary humming.
18. The year ends, and the lotus drips away. In the green well, sweet wine is frozen. The early morning cold is still deceptive, while the spring's slender beauty has already arrived in the willows. The beauty strongly encourages a thousand years of longevity. Cypress leaves and pepper flowers scent the emerald sleeves. In the deepest part of the land of intoxication, there are few who know each other, only with the Eastern Lord are the old ties cherished. — Mao Pang, "Yùlóu Chūn · Yǒujī Yuánrì"
19. 1 In a few days, the Mid-Autumn Festival will be here. Tonight, the moonlight is like silver, and I am sitting alone under the cowherd flower trellis on the balcony, with a cup of clear tea and a thin volume of poetry. The soft light flows silently over my clothes... 2 This is truly an ocean of lights, with tens of thousands of golden lights shining down from a height of six or seven meters, like a waterfall, truly resembling the "fall of the Golden River into Desheng." Oh, this is the first time I have seen so many and so extraordinary lights that I can't even look at them all. Those colorful, diverse lanterns are truly a feast for the eyes, with red "five-pointed stars," proud "little chickens," lively and cute "little monkeys"... 3 The deep blue sky is filled with colorful fireworks, the blooming fireworks like balls of color, like piles of snowflakes, like shooting stars trailing colorful ribbons, lighting up the dark night sky as if it were daylight, making the Lantern Festival night extraordinarily beautiful. 4 In the morning, the golden sun sprinkles the earth, and the scenery of the village has been completely transformed. The streets seem to have changed overnight, brightly decorated with lanterns and festive decorations, bustling with activity. Every household has pasted "upside-down blessings," couplets, and hanging red lanterns. People are dressed in festive attire, their faces radiating with happy smiles. 5 Another year has come, and in the new year, everything will change. I have grown another year older, and I hope that good luck will accompany me throughout the year. I will also work harder and strive to achieve excellent results in this year. When I grow up, I hope to make great contributions to the construction of my hometown.

21. Sparse white hair does not fill the crown, keeping the New Year's Eve fire by the stove wears away sleep. Cutting the candle to dry the wine of the night, emptying my purse to buy money for the spring. Listening to the crackling of firecrackers, the childlike heart remains; watching the change of peach symbols, the old enthusiasm is misplaced. 30. The first sentence "With the sound of firecrackers, the old year is sent away and the new year is welcomed," signifies the farewell to the old year and the welcoming of the new year amidst the sound of鞭炮 (firecrackers). The opening sentence is closely linked to the theme, setting a festive and joyous atmosphere of the Spring Festival. The second sentence "The spring breeze brings warmth into the Su Su wine," describes people enjoying the mirth of the Su Su wine in the gentle spring breeze. The third sentence "The rosy dawn shines over every household," depicts the radiant light of the rising sun illuminating thousands of households. The word "曈曈" (tōngtóng) is used to depict the brilliant scene of the sunrise, symbolizing a bright and promising future. The concluding sentence "Always replacing the old peach with the new one," not only describes the folk custom of the time but also conveys the meaning of getting rid of the old and welcoming the new. "Peach symbols" are peach boards painted with divine images and hung on doors to ward off evil. On New Year's Day, the old peach symbols are taken down and new ones are hung up. The phrase "replacing the old peach with the new one" is closely linked to the first sentence about sending away the old year with firecrackers, vividly depicting the scene of a new beginning.

32. The gentle fragrance is hazy, still lingering in my heart. I long to return to the lake in my dreams, where the waters are like a mirror, captivating and making one reluctant to leave. I've once again lost my way, not knowing where I am. Poor Wu land, the white frost has stained the hair with spots like stars, as if the spring breeze cannot melt the frost, let alone the scattered hair against the fallen plum blossoms that fall like rain and snow.
33. Among the ancient poems about the Spring Festival, the one that modern Chinese people are probably most familiar with is Wang Anshi's "Yuanri" (New Year's Day):

37. On the Eve of the Chinese New Year, when the New Year bell chimes, the鞭炮 sounds echoing from all directions across the vast land of China might be the most lively sounds on Earth. When I wake up in the morning on the Spring Festival, the ground is covered with remnants of firecrackers. I remember many years ago, I wrote a poem for the Spring Festival issue of the Wenhui Daily. There was an engraving in it, depicting an empty courtyard gate with a red couplet pasted on it, and the ground in front of the gate was strewn with firecracker fragments. I've forgotten what my poem was about, but I still vividly recall that scene. The meaning of this scene is not easily understood by foreigners, but it is immediately recognized by Chinese people as a scene of celebrating the Spring Festival. The scene of this painting can actually be described by ancient poems: "The new calendar has just opened half of its pages, the small courtyard still gathers the ashes of the firecrackers," which is a line from the poem by the Tang Dynasty poet Lai Hu. The great painter and calligrapher of the Yuan Dynasty, Zhao Ziyang, also wrote a seven-character poem about setting off firecrackers during the Spring Festival, which is much more lively than the poem by Wang Anshi: "Dense and brilliant like stars falling, fierce and noisy like fierce attacks."
