It is only by not competing that the sage is able to prevent the world from competing with him.

59. 药逢炁类方成象,道在虚无合自然。一粒灵丹吞入腹,始知我命不由天。

59. When medicine meets the Qi, the image is formed; the Tao lies in the void and unites with nature. When a single elixir is swallowed into the belly, one knows that one's destiny is not subject to heaven.

60. 道之尊,德之贵,夫莫之命而常自然。故道生之,德畜之;长之育之;成之熟之;养之覆之。生而不有,为而不恃,长而不宰。是谓玄德。

60. The reverence for the Tao, the value of virtue, none can command it yet it always remains natural. Therefore, the Tao generates life, virtue nourishes it; grows and nurtures it; ripens and perfects it; and cares for and covers it. It brings forth but does not possess, acts but does not rely on its own will, and guides but does not dominate. This is called the sublime virtue.

61. 夫忧者所以为昌也,喜者所以为亡也。胜非其难者也,持之其难者也。贤主以此持胜,故其福及后世。
