8. The opening line of the poem, "The old friend bids farewell at the Yellow Crane Tower," closely adheres to the theme, indicating the place of departure and the relationship between the sender and the one being sent off. The word "old friend" signifies the profound friendship between the two poets. The Yellow Crane Tower is a famous landmark, a gathering place for literary figures, and also a place where it is said that immortals ascended to heaven riding cranes. Now, the two elegant and light-hearted poets are bidding farewell here, which carries a poetic and romantic atmosphere. The second line, "In the misty March, the willow flowers float down to Yangzhou," follows the first line, describing the time of the departure and the destination of the one being sent off. Yangzhou is a bustling metropolis in the southeast, famous for its prosperity since ancient times, and March is the season when the spring is bright and flowers compete in their beauty. The poet uses "willow flowers" to describe "March," not only vividly depicting the hazy, colorful flowers of the spring, but also evoking the image of Yangzhou during the flourishing Kaiyuan era, with its richly decorated scenes of prosperity and peace. Meng Haoran's destination is indeed a wonderful place, and the time he chooses is also very appropriate. Li Bai naturally feels envious of this trip of his friend. The clear and bright line, "In the misty March, the willow flowers float down to Yangzhou," exactly expresses the poet's inner joy and longing. However, Li Bai is also an emotional poet; as his friend sets sail and departs, a feeling of sorrow at parting arises naturally. From the "Collection of Li Bai," we can see that Li Bai and Meng Haoran had many answering poems. In his "Gift to Meng Haoran," Li Bai wrote: "I love you, Master Meng, your elegance is famous throughout the world. A young man abandons the sedan chair and court robes, and in old age, he lies beneath the pine clouds." This shows how much Li Bai admires Meng Haoran, and how deep their friendship is.
