1. 清朝人李应麟,居云南昆明,从小温顺善良。他的母亲不幸去世后,便劝父亲再娶。他用卖卜的收入来供养父母。应麟对待继母虽然十分孝顺,但是继母却将他视为眼中钉,百般刁难,常常对他施以棍棒。每当这时应麟总是跪着,恭敬如初,丝毫没有抗拒之意。他的父亲却轻信继母谗言,将他逐出了家门。应麟仍无怨言,每年父母生日,都准备好礼品回家祝贺。不久应麟听说继母病了,急忙回家进行护理,并跑到三十里外的地方求医抓药,不管雨天晴天天天如此,直到继母病愈。同时应麟对待继母所生孩子格外亲和,终使继母悔恨不已,是此母子关系改善,胜过亲生。

Yinglin still had no complaints and every year, he prepared gifts to return home and celebrate his parents' birthdays. Soon, Yinglin heard that his stepmother was sick, and he hurried home to take care of her. He also ran thirty miles to seek medical treatment and gather medicine, doing so every day, regardless of rain or sunshine, until his stepmother recovered. At the same time, Yinglin showed great affection to his stepmother's child, which eventually made the stepmother deeply regretful. This improved the mother-son relationship, surpassing that of biological parents.

Tanzi pondered deeply and finally came up with a method. He put on a deer skin and went into the deep mountains to join the deer herd, hoping to obtain the deer milk to offer to his parents. However, he was discovered by hunters. Just as the hunter raised his bow and arrow to shoot him, Tanzi shouted urgently: "I put on the deer skin only to get the deer milk to feed my parents who have eye diseases, and I mingled with the deer herd to collect the milk." Upon realizing that it was a person and not a deer, the hunter lowered his bow and arrow and did not shoot him. He was so impressed by Tanzi's filial piety that he admired him greatly. A poem praising him goes:

12. 在三国时,有一个孝子,姓孟,名宗,字恭武,从小就丧了父亲,家里十分贫寒,母子俩相依为命。长大后,母亲年纪老迈,体弱多病。不管母亲想吃什么,他都想方设法满足她。一天,母亲病重,想吃竹笋煮羹,但这时正是冬天,冰天雪地,风雪交加,哪来竹笋呢? 他无可奈何,想不出什么好的办法,就跑到竹林抱竹痛哭。哭了半天,只觉得全身发热,风吹过来也是热的。他睁眼一看,四周的冰雪都融化了,草木也由枯转青了,再仔细瞧瞧,周围长出了许多竹笋。他的孝心感动了天地。他把竹笋让母亲吃了,母亲的病就好了。有诗颂曰:

Feeling helpless and unable to think of a good solution, he ran to the bamboo forest and hugged the bamboo, crying. After crying for a while, he felt his whole body becoming hot, and even the wind felt warm. When he opened his eyes, he saw that the surrounding snow and ice had melted, and the trees and grass had turned green. Upon closer inspection, he saw that many bamboo shoots had grown around him. His filial piety moved the heavens and the earth. He let his mother eat the bamboo shoots, and her illness was cured. A poem praising him goes:

21. Min Sun of the Zhou Dynasty, styled Zi Qian, was a filial son. His mother passed away early, and his father, pitiating him for the difficulty in providing for his food and clothing, remarried and entrusted the care of Min Zi Qian to his stepmother. A few years later, the stepmother gave birth to two sons and gradually became indifferent to Zi Qian. One year, as winter approached, the father had not returned, and the stepmother, showing favoritism, made thick cotton clothes for her own sons but used reed fluff for Zi Qian. One day, when the father returned, he asked Zi Qian to help pull the cart out. The cold wind outside was piercing, and Zi Qian was single-clothed and shivering, but he endured it silently and said nothing to his father. Later, the rope wore through the cotton cloth on Zi Qian's shoulder. When the father saw the reed fluff inside the cotton cloth, he knew that his son was being mistreated by the stepmother and decided to divorce her upon returning home. Zi Qian saw the stepmother and the two younger brothers in pain, crying and unable to part, so he knelt down and pleaded with his father, "If the mother were still alive, only one son would have suffered the cold; if the mother were driven out, all three children would suffer the cold." Zi Qian's filial piety moved the stepmother, causing her to repent of her previous ways. From then on, the mother was kind and the children were filial, bringing joy to the entire family. There is a poem that praises this:

30. 上古时期五帝之一的舜,是瞽瞍的儿子。从小就很孝顺父母。他父亲是个老实厚道的农夫。舜的生母在舜十几岁时故去了,舜的父亲瞽叟是个盲人,据说很有音乐天才。他娶了一位后妻,性情粗暴、凶狠。舜的母亲因家境贫困,常对他父亲出言不逊、横加指责。她生了一个儿子名叫象。象长大后变得凶残、蛮横、傲慢、无理,也常对父亲傲慢不恭敬。只有舜始终如一,不怨天尤人,对父母恭顺如常,对弟弟加倍关心、照顾,引导其改过自新。此超常之大孝心,感动上天。当舜在山下耕田时有神象相助;又有神鸟帮忙锄去荒草。当时的帝尧听说舜的孝行,特派九位侍者去服侍瞽瞍夫妇,并将自己的女儿娥皇和女英嫁给舜,以表彰他的孝心。后来尧把帝位也“禅让”给舜。人们赞扬说,舜由一个平民成为帝王纯由他的孝心所致。

30. Shun, one of the Five Emperors of ancient times, was the son of Goumou. He was very filial to his parents from a young age. His father was an honest and kind-hearted farmer. Shun's mother passed away when he was in his teens. His father, Gou Sou, was a blind man and was said to have a musical talent. He married a second wife who was violent and fierce. Shun's mother, due to the family's poverty, often scolded and blamed his father harshly. She gave birth to a son named Xiang. As Xiang grew up, he became cruel, domineering, proud, and unreasonable, and he also often treated his father with arrogance and disrespect. Only Shun remained consistent, never complaining or blaming others, treating his parents with the utmost respect, and taking extra care and attention of his younger brother, guiding him to reform and become a better person. This extraordinary filial piety moved the heavens. While Shun was farming in the mountains, divine elephants came to help him; and divine birds helped him clear the weeds. The Emperor Yao of that time, upon hearing of Shun's filial conduct, sent nine attendants to serve Goumou and his wife, and married his own daughters, Yao Huang and Yao Ying, to Shun to commend his filial piety. Later, Emperor Yao also "passed the throne" to Shun. People praised that Shun's rise from a commoner to an emperor was solely due to his filial piety.

31. 二六女儿明大义,看姑骂祖逆亲意;入房跪劝悔前非,示范儿孙行孝字。

31. The second daughter understands righteousness, seeing the aunt scold the ancestors and go against her parents' wishes; she enters the room, kneels to persuade and repent of her past mistakes, setting an example for her children and grandchildren to practice filial piety.

34. 正月初二祝福临:度新年,燃鞭炮;团圆餐,滋味妙;人团圆,喜气绕;家欢乐,福运到;幸运签,皆抽到;新一年,诸事好!新春快乐。

38. 译文:春天的景致又到了梨花零落的时候,夕阳西下,黄昏降临,却不知道人间尚有人相思惆怅,不能自已。曾经浓情蜜意,海誓山盟。为了她甘愿做梦中之人,于是整日对着她的画像呼唤,希望能以至诚打动她,让她像“真真”那样从画中走出来与我相会。

38. Translation: The scenery of spring has arrived at the time when pear blossoms fall. The sun sets in the west, dusk descends, yet unaware that there are still people in the world who are longing and melancholic, unable to contain their emotions. Once there was deep affection and solemn promises. For her, one would be willing to become the person in a dream. Thus, one spends the whole day calling out to her portrait, hoping to move her with sincerity, so that she may step out of the painting like "Zhen Zhen" and meet me.

39. 黄儿:生性冲动果敢的她,与金咤的这段感情可以说是天注定的缘分。她们在那天大家之后,命运就把她们两个捆在一起,不分离。

41. A myriad of weak waters, beautiful women as numerous as clouds. They are unparalleled in all the heavens and earth, and have been uniquely born after a thousand years.

42. 明朝湖南道川守将沉至绪,有一个独生女儿,名叫沈云英。自小聪明好学,跟父亲学得一身好武艺。因其父率兵迎异军死在战场上,当时沈云英才十七岁,她登上高处大声呼曰:“我虽然是一个小女子,为完成父亲守城的遗志,我要决一死战。希望全体军民保卫家乡。”大家深受感动,发誓要夺回失地。很快解除了包围,取得了胜利。沈云英找到父亲的尸体,大声痛哭,全体军民都穿上孝服,参加了葬礼。朝廷下令追封沉至绪为副总兵,并任命沈云英为游击将军,继续守卫道州府。后来人们为她建了一座忠孝双全的纪念祠。有诗颂曰:

42. In the Ming Dynasty, the commander of the Hunan Road, Shen Zhixiu, had a sole daughter named Shen Yunying. From a young age, she was intelligent and eager to learn, and she acquired excellent martial arts skills from her father. Due to her father's leading the troops to meet the enemy and dying on the battlefield, at the time Shen Yunying was only seventeen years old. She climbed to a high place and shouted out, "Although I am a young woman, to fulfill my father's wish to defend the city, I will fight to the death. I hope all the military and civilians will defend our hometown." Everyone was deeply moved and vowed to retake the lost territory. The siege was quickly lifted, and victory was achieved. Shen Yunying found her father's body and cried out loudly, and all the military and civilians wore mourning clothes and attended the funeral. The court ordered the posthumous appointment of Shen Zhixiu as the Deputy Commander of the Army, and appointed Shen Yunying as the Commandant General, continuing to defend the Daozhou Prefecture. Later, people built a memorial hall in her honor that commemorated both loyalty and filial piety. There is a poem that praises her:
