The innkeeper said, "Guest, haven't you seen the characters on the flag outside? This wine is very potent; after drinking three bowls, you will definitely be drunk and unable to cross the ridge in front, hence the name 'Three Bowls and You Can't Cross the Ridge'." 46. Wu Song walked for several miles and arrived at the foot of a hill. At this time, the red sun was gradually sinking in the west. Buoyed by the alcohol, Wu Song climbed the hill, and saw a dilapidated temple with a government notice posted on the door. Upon getting closer, he realized that the innkeeper had not been lying. However, if he went back, he would be laughed at. "What's to be afraid of," he told himself, "even if there were a tiger, it doesn't necessarily mean I would run into one today." As he continued walking, it got dark. The eighteen bowls of wine in his stomach began to take effect, and Wu Song walked unsteadily. As he reached the edge of a dense forest, he could no longer hold on and lay down on a large green stone. Just as he was about to fall asleep, suddenly a fierce storm erupted. After the storm, a loud thud behind the chaotic trees, and a magnificent tiger leaped out! Wu Song cried out "Ah ya," and rolled off the green stone, quickly grabbing the staff in his hand. The tiger, eager for this meal, fiercely pounced down from the sky. Wu Song was so startled that the wine he had drunk turned into cold sweat. He quickly dodged and got behind the tiger. The tiger then flipped backward, but Wu Song dodged again. Next, the tiger's tail, as strong as an iron rod, swept over, but missed Wu Song. It turned out that this pounce, flip, and sweep were the tiger's signature moves, and with all three failed, its momentum was reduced by half. It was Wu Song's turn to show his strength. He lifted the staff and struck with all his might, but unfortunately, it hit a branch, breaking into two pieces. The tiger pounced again, and Wu Song jumped backward, and the tiger landed right in front of him. Wu Song used both hands to press down on the tiger's head, kicking wildly at the tiger's face and eyes. The tiger, in pain, roared and dug a hole with its claws. Wu Song would not let go, pressing the tiger until it gradually exhausted its strength. At this moment, Wu Song freed his right hand and pounded the tiger's head with a hammer-like force for fifty or sixty times. The tiger's eyes, mouth, nose, and ears all flowed with blood, and it could no longer move, only gasping. Wu Song, afraid that the tiger was not dead, picked up the half-staff and continued to strike, until the tiger had no more breath left.
