9. 皮鞭伤肉，恶语伤心。

9. The whip injures the flesh, and harsh words wound the heart.

10. 虎瘦雄心在，人穷志不短。

10. The tiger may be lean, but its雄心 (male heart, referring to ambition) remains; a person may be poor, but their 志 (will, referring to determination or spirit) is not short.

11. 愁人苦夜长，志士惜日短。

11. Troubled hearts find nights too long, brave souls cherish the shortness of days.

12. 上梁不正下梁歪，中梁不正倒下来。

12. If the top beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked. If the central beam is not straight, it will collapse.

13. There is only a reputation of a thousand miles, but no might or majesty of a thousand miles.
