The "Shengjing Times" recorded the terrible situation of the earthquake damage in the city of Wuwei and surrounding areas: "The earth suddenly shook, the mountains and valleys collapsed, the sun was dark, and the city and houses fell by sixty to seventy percent. The prosperous area was reduced to ruins, and the ancient ruins of thousands of years were destroyed at the same time. The cries of pain shook the sky and earth, and the smoke in ten thousand wells disappeared. There has never been such a terrible and severe earthquake disaster in history.
