Faced with this severe situation, from June 12 to 26, 1987, the United Nations held a ministerial conference on drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking in Vienna, with the participation of more than 3,000 representatives from 138 countries. The conference proposed the slogan "Love life, say no to drugs." The participating representatives agreed to designate June 26 every year as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (also known as International Drug Abuse Prevention Day) to raise the world's attention to the drug problem and call on people around the world to jointly resist the harm of drugs. In December of the same year, the 42nd session of the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution, deciding to make June 26 every year the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (i.e., International Drug Abuse Prevention Day).
